On a noisy night, in a quiet apartment, there lived a young woman named Ruth Umret. She grew up in Massachusetts with her parents and graduated from Harvard Law School at 25-years-of-age; then, she moved to New York City. Now, she works in her own office in The Big Apple. Well, she may not be the best lawyer in town, but still has an "okay" reputation among her clients. She's been working at it for 4 years, which means she's 29 at the moment.
Since she didn't have a client at the moment, Ruth went home and decided to take a week off work and stay at home watching shows on Netflix, which she called "vacation". It was a Monday night, she spent her day watching Hannibal, so she decided to go on a walk, even if it was 11:30 p.m. at the moment.
Two blocks away from her apartment there is a nice park outside the caos of the city. Ruth decided to walk over there. As she opened the door a cold breeze hit her face making her shiver. She was only wearing a black long-sleeved turtle-neck shirt with blue jeans and tied her long golden brown hair in a half ponytail look. A cream colored trenchcoat was hanging on the wall, so she put it on and locked the door behind her before leaving her lonely apartment.
Her black knee-high boots made no sound as she walked on the sidewalk and crossed the road quickly trying not to get hit by a car. As she walked toward the small park on the outskirts of the city at a fast pace, her breath was visible like the smoke blown by a train.
At 12:00 p.m. she finally arrived at the park and sat down on a bench. There was nobody in the park. It was truly quiet there, since it was a bit far away from the street for the kid's safety. A silent moment passed. She looked at the time her phone was showing and noticed it was alredy 12:32 p.m.
"Wow...It's pretty late now, maybe I should head back home. Ugh, now I have to walk back.", she said to herself quietly.
*growl* "I'm hungry too, sheesh."
She got up and walked out at the park to head over to a 7-Eleven next to the park. Ruth drank an Iced Coffee and ate a Turkey Sandwich as she sat outside the store. When she finished her dinner and threw away the trash, she looked for her phone in the trenchcoat's pocket and realized she left it at the bench in the park. Ruth got a shiver through her back as she began to ran for her phone. 'Oh shit', she said in her mind. Panting she arrived at the bench and grabbed her iPhone, which was low on battery. She sighted in relief.
As she walked out of the park and stopped under the spotlight of a light post in front of the park, she heard someone say, "S-stop right there!" Ruth frozed in place and turned around slowly to face a skinny man who's face was hidden behind the shadow of his black hoodie. She looked down to see the silver glint of a metal knife shivering in his hand. He pointed the knife close to her belly and said with no hesitation, "Give me all your money." It felt unreal that she was getting mugged and for a few seconds only the sound of her own heart thumped in her ears. "Now!", he screamed and starteled her awake before she fainted. Ruth took two steps back and shaked her head. He threatened her again, but she couldn't say a word. Panick took over and she began to cry and waved her head no. 'Oh shit, shit, shit!' She decided to try and run away (even though the street was a good distance away from there), but when she moved backwards...he launched the knife forward and she grabbed his arm, but it was to late to stop him...a sharp pain penetrated her torso...Something warm spread under her left breast...it was...blood...She looked up at him and his face was filled with panick, he pulled the knife out of her and said, "I-I'm so s-sorry..." He ran away quickly and disappeared in the darkness of the night as he crossed the bordeline the light post made on the ground.
