Obsidian's life was good. He had a family, a roof over his head, and friends. But when he got older, he didn't grow to be as big as the other Steamwings, and they picked on him. Suddenly, life didn't seem so good and perfect to him. Obsidian managed fairly well avoiding the taunts and jabs of the other Steamwings, but after a while, it became too much. Feeling overwhelmed and hurt, Obsidian left his home, trying to escape the cruel words the other dragons threw at him.
He found an old city, devoid of any dragons, and overtaken by wildlife. There were deer, rabbits, squirrels, and birds everywhere, not paying any attention to the dragon. Obsidian realized he would be safe here, and stayed with the forest animals. A few years later, Obsidian knew he had to go back home. He found it hard to go back to face his family, but he managed it, somehow. When he returned, his parents welcomed him with open arms, and the dragons who had teased him apologized. Obsidian felt the happiness he had as a young dragonet again. He told them about the old city and the things he found there, and they were awestruck. The dragons all remarked at how brave Obsidian was, and no one ever teased him again. Obsidian stayed with his parents for a long time, but went back to the old city when they died.
