"Blume! Come here right now!" Blume turned, trudging back to the hollowed spot in the ground she called a home. Her father must have gotten ahold of alcohol again. She was almost nine years old now, he couldn't continue to scream at her forever...right?
Blume hoped maybe one day, he would be able to let go of the past, and maybe realize that her mom being eaten wasn't her fault. She was torn up too, but it was four years ago. The small girl hesitantly pulled aside the curtains, slowly peeking into the hut.
"F-Father? You called?""Yes I did, you brat. Why haven't you cooked dinner yet? If you're gunna get yer mother killed, you best be ready to take on her responsibilities!"
"I-I'm sorry Father, but it's n-not even lunchtime yet...and I didn't want her to die either..." Blume meekly defended, quite ready to sprint back to her best friends house where she knew she'd be safe. When her father smashed his beer bottle against the smooth dirt wall, she had never ran so fast in her life.
Her muscles tensed, and she twisted around, leaving a cloud of dust in her wake. She knew if she could stay ahead of him, she'd be safe. He would be held back by sober adults, or get lost in the tunnels.
He didn't know where Siorc and her family lived. He never left the house.
She kept pushing, and turning, and puffing. But she never stopped. Her adrenaline kept her going through the long tunnels, and let out as she reached her destination. She collapsed in front of the dugout hut, gasping for air.
Her mind started reeling, and the strangest thing she ever saw in her life happened. As if by wind, which was almost nonexistent underground, or by magic, which certainly no human would posses, the curtain in front of her lifted open, revealing herself to Siorc and her mother and father.
Siorc turned from helping her mother cook, and rushed to Blume's side.
"Blume! What happened? Are you okay? Dad, please, get a glass of water!"
×Seven Years Ahead×
Blume jerked up, drenched in sweat. She hadn't dreamt about that day for years... She turned her head, making sure she didn't wake up Siorc. Ever since that day....ever since her father brandished a physical threat, she stayed with Siorc. Her parents were very caring, sometimes a little too much, but she very much appreciated it. She hadn't felt family love since a bit before her mother died, and it was a very welcome change for her.
Slowly pulling herself out from under the covers, she walked across the bare floor and out of the hut. It was winter, so it was quite chilly. Soft breezes ghosted across her legs, causing a few strands of hair to lick her face. Blume giggled quietly, relishing the silent moments where she could think. Usually, she though about strange occurances. Whenever she dropped something, and tried to catch it, it almost seemed to...stop...for a moment so her hand could catch up with it. She hadn't shared it with anyone yet, if only because she didn't know exactly what it was. She knew it was happening...she swore it had stopped a glass figure from shattering. That was an event all on its own...
×Four months back×
Blume was delivering a glass figurine of a mermaid, for an elders birthday, when she spotted AJ out of the corner of her eye.
"Not right now AJ. If you make me fuck up this delivery, it'll be the last damn thing you do. Hear me?"AJ stared at her a moment.
"Whoops".
He pushed the figurine forward, quickly running off into the tunnels. Blume felt as everything slowed down, her heart rate increasing. The aqua mermaid slipped out of her hold, tilting downward to greet the floor. Blume flung her arm out, and froze in surprise as it stopped. Her hand still a few centimeters from it, and the head only a few inches away from the ground, and no one else around to witness it, the figure...
Stopped.
In mid-air.
Blume couldn't possibly comprehend the situation, but figured there was some timer, and carefully reached forward to grasp the base of the glass figure. With a shaky breath, she pulled it into a secure grip, standing in shock for a few minutes, before slowly continuing down the tunnel, still lost in thought.
×Back to the present×
Blume wrapped her arms around herself, starting to feel the chill. She stepped back inside, ready to sleep once more until the woken world needed her.
*Wow I'm actually really proud of this. Let me know which character you want next. The reason it's so late is because Wattpad was being an ass,and I had a chapter, but whenever I published it, only half would show? So, basically though, the girls are teenagers, and have jobs. Siorc is a teacher, Blume is a decorator and delivery gal,Klaika is the Bearer, having to go through and light all of the torches throughout the Penitentiary, and Nyasi is the head gardener because "somehow"(hehe) she can grow bigger crops than everyone else. Also, (they will be crappy,) but! If you want me to draw the girls and maybe AJ too whatever, lemme know,k? See ya!!*
