Chapter 5 ~ My Brother Is Doubled
“What’s your last name again?” Annabeth asked.
“Valdez. Why?”
“I need to bring you to the Hephaestus cabin.” She said.
“Which cabin is that?” I asked.
“Cabin nine.” She replied.
When we got to cabin nine I would describe it as a steam engine. When we went inside I was awed. The bunks had their own combination and it had a firemans pole (which was cool). We went down a small flight of stairs to a room with work tables. There was a few campers down there. Annabeth cleared her throat.
“Is Leo here?” She asked.
The campers turned around with surprised expressions on their faces.
“Yeah” Said one of the campers. “I’m here.”
“Leo we need to talk.” Annabeth said. “Privately.”
All of the other campers except one left and either went upstairs or to the forges.
“What’s up?” He said I guessed that he was Leo.
“Leo this is Willow” Annabeth introduced me to him.
“This is the newbie?” He asked.
“I have a name you know.” I said.
He walked closer. He looked hispanic, black hair, brown eyes, he wore a army jacket which had so many pockets, and he wore a tool belt.
“Oh my gods you look just like him minus the computer bag.” I said.
“Wait who?” Leo asked sounding very confused.
I walked around him. Inspected him thoroughly and from no matter what angle he looked exactly like my brother Leo.
“My brother.” I said absentmindedly.
“Oh and what’s his name?” Leo asked.
“Leo,” I said. “His name is Leo.”
“Ok?” Leo asked definitely confused now.
“Leo what’s your last name?” I asked because I felt like I knew the answer already.
“Valdez” He said. “Why do you need to know?”
“I need to know because mine is, too” I said.
“What?” Leo asked.
“My name is Willow Valdez.” I said.
“Woah.” He said. “Who do I look like to you again?”
“My brother Leonardo Valdez. He’s sixteen.” I said.
“So am I”
“Ok.” I turned to Annabeth. “Why did you bring me to see him?”
“I, ummm,” Anna beth stammered. “I thought that it would be nice for you to know that he was here. Instead of you finding him and then flipping out because he looks just like your brother Leo.”
“Alright thats reasonable because you saw my temper.” I said.
“Hey I’m still here” Leo said.
“Yeah I know.” I said. “Its just strange how you look exactly like him.”
“Thanks, I guess.” Leo said.
I ran out of that cabin and Annabeth ran out to get me after she said goodbye to Leo. When she found me, I was on sitting on my bunk looking at my cell phone, looking through the pictures.
“Hey.” Annabeth said. “I thought that you didn’t have a phone.”
“I have one as you can see.” I said wiping tears away. “I just didn’t know if it would work here.”
“Ah.” Annabeth said. “Well I don’t think that you could call or text people but, you can play games, and look at pictures, also you can take some pictures if you wanted to. Also if you take some pictures we could down load them on to my laptop and email them to your family if you want.”
“Really?” I asked. “You would do that for me?”
“Of course I would.” Annabeth said comforting me and I was glad for it.
“Thanks Annabeth” That was the only response I could say without crying.
“Hey its no biggy.” Annabeth said.
“To me it is.” I replied.
Percy came in just as I said that.
“Hey? Whats going on here?” Percy asked.
“Nothing Percy. She’s just homesick.” Annabeth told him calmly.
“Hey. Ummm, if it will help you.” Percy told me. “We could go canoeing.”
“Sure.” I said. “Why not.”
“Hows after dinner?” He asked.
“Thats fine.” I said.
Annabeth cleared her throat. “I’ll see you later then.” She kissed him and left.
“I guess that you met Leo by the look on your face.” Percy said.
“Yeah.” I said starting to cry. “He looks just like him though. Its kind of freaky.”
“I understand.” Percy said sitting down next to me. “Believe me I know.”
“How? How do you know?” I asked sobbing like crazy.
“When I found out that my best friend was a syter, I was scared.” He said as if he were reliving that day.
“Oh” I said in a small voice, my sobs gone. I didn’t know what to say to him.
“Hey don’t let me bum you out.” Percy said. “Besides he’s still my best friend.”
I laughed. “Thanks you made me feel better.”
“No problem, you’re homesick I get it. “Percy said sympathizing. “I was passed out for my first two days here.”
“Ha, you’re lucky. I wish I passed out when I got here.”
“And miss me bringing you here.” He said starting to laugh.
“Well, no.” I said. “I love that you brought me here but, I can’t explain this gut feeling that I’m in danger here. Like I shouldn’t be here.”
Percy looked confused in his eyes but, his expression didn’t show that he was. “Hmmm. I don’t know what to tell you.” He said. “You should talk to Jason, he knows more of that feeling then me.”
“No, you don’t get it do you?” I asked. “I feel like I should be here but, at the same time I feel as if I’m in danger.”
“You’re right I don’t get it, maybe you should talk to Annabeth.”
“I’m gonna go to sleep.” I said because I was mentally and physically exhausted.
“Alright,” he said getting off of my bunk. He leaned down and kissed my forehead. “Goodnight.” He said and then left.
I was amazed about how brotherly he can feel. I know that he is my brother but, I felt like we bonded. At that last thought I fell asleep.
