"Thomas James!" The coach was yelling my name as I was running to the field. I was late beacuse I went to go get pop at Mc Donalds which is right across the street.

"Sorry". Trevor was not far behind me. What? we get a little thirsty. I know I shouldn't be late on the first day of practice, but a guy in front of us was ordering shakes! Its freking 50 degress in west Michigan! Why would you want a shake!?!?!

I already got my gear on. I actully look really mature with it on. I was excited to start practice. But, the coach was not happy.

"Are you serious!?!?!! why would you be late on your first day of practice". Some kids were laughing, but I don't give a crap. My mom says I can be sassy, whatever that means.

"Im sorry, we had a.....a.....family emergency". The coach was glaring at me like he was staring into my sould. It gave me the chills.

"Trevor Shild! You to!" His head looks like it would burst any moment. Trevor was turning red to, of embrarresment. I felt bad, he didn't the confindence that I had".

"Lets just start practice. Today you will be showing me what your strenights to assign you of your role on this team!"

Some kids moaned. Some rolled there eyes. This is going to be longgggggggg.

.....................

I got back home with just Mark there. How lucky am I.

Mark POV

How do I talk to this kid? I love Jo so much, but its so hard to keep the secret she told me when we went on are second date. Tommy looks just like him, how would he not no? Talking to Tom is so awkward. I can tell he doesn't like me. He thinks I "stole" his dad from him. I don't like thinking that, but the way he looks at me. With his blue eyes full of sorrow and sadness. He want his life to be perfect. I try to love him like im his dad, but it never works. I brought Jo and him to California and spent over $5,00 on them. But, when we got back, nothing. And look who just walked through the door.

Thomas POV

Mark is wiping the counter. He is way younger then my mom. My mom is 43, and he is 33. 10 year age diffrence! "Hi Thomas! how was your first day of school!" I try to make conversation with him. "Good. football practice was awful though. I think I should do soccer instead".  His eyes light up. "Cool! I played soccer in college at Michigan State. We won state 2 years in a row". You mean like 10 years ago? I was stuffing my second choclate chip cookie in my mouth. "I have to do my homework". I grabbed my backpack from the counter and went upstairs. I hate dissapointing him. I really do. It's just so hard for someone my mom met a year ago to come into my life and take my spot of caring for her.
