Chapter 1- Pool

"Ugghhh", I groaned as I fanned myself with my hand. Today was about 100 degrees out and I was trying to stay cool inside my house. My little sister, Sadie, wasn't helping.

She was running around, although I don't know how exactly, and blasting one direction music. Which of course I didn't mind, I was a fan of them, but just looking at her made me sweat.

"Sadie! Knock it off!" I said as I walked to the freezer pulling out a tub of ice cream and a spoon out of the drawer. Sadie came in and started singing along to Rock Me. I frowned. She was little! That song was inappropriate for her.

I snatched the iPod away from her and changed it to What Makes You Beautiful. I nodded my head in approval. This was much better. I was actually pretty protective of my sister. I guess it was the annoying older sister factor playing in.

"Hey Sydney! Sadie!" I heard my mom yell from the garage.

"What mom?" I yelled back and I glared at Sadie to put the music down low and she put her hands up defensively.

"Come and help with the groceries!! Quick!" I set down my ice cream and stuck my spoon in my mouth. Sadie was already out the garage door, and I ran out after her and saw the funniest thing ever.

My mom had several bags latched into her arms and Sadie was trying to grab them, they were both tripping over stuff that was dropping.

"No... No!"

"That's wrong!"

"No that way!"

"Sadie that's my foot!"

I just stood there and laughed and even took a few pictures. Hey when your family's acting weird, why wouldn't you make fun of them.

"Sydney would you mind helping us....?" She looked at me pleadingly while Sadie struggled to lift up 3 milk jugs at once.

"Mmkay...", I sighed acting like it was the worst thing in the world for me to do.

After we struggled with the bags, we all plopped down on the couch and switched on all the fans near us.

"Hey, maybe we could go to the pool! All of my friends are gonna be there! We should definitely go!!" Sadie suddenly yelled.

Mom looked over at her. "Sorry honey, not today. I have to go and pick up your father at the airport and its going to be one heck of a ride since the AC is broken in the car". She grimaced. "I have to go get ready for that but Sydney can take you".

I choked on my ice cream.

"What!???" I spluttered. "I can't! As you can see I have a very important date with my baby here!" I was actually only half kidding, I planned on eating the rest of the ice cream in the house and watching the fan move back and forth all day. Sure I was an 18 back from college for the summer, people expected me to relax after all that studying.

"Sydney...", Mom said using her 'I'm being serious right now and if you don't take her to the pool today I will jam that spoon down your throat' voice.

"Fineeeeeeeee." I groaned. "C'mon Sadie, lets get this over with".

At the pool...

"Look Sadie! Isn't that your friend Margaret?" I pointed her out as we set up our towels on the chaises. It was later in the day so there were only a few places left to sit. Next to us was a very fat, hairy man snoring loudly. On the other side was a man rubbing sunscreen on his 20 kids that were all running around the place.
