"The Party Song"
Blink 1-82
"Do you want to come to a party
My friends picked me up in their truck at 11:30
This things at a frat house but the people are cool there
Reluctant I followed but I never dreamed there
Would be someone there who would catch my attention
I wasn't out searching for love or affection"

I walked in the door finally ready to be home after a long day at school. I shrugged off my jacket throwing it on the couch as I entered the house. "Mom" I said as I walked through the kitchen, hoping for a reply. "Mom" I said again this time a little louder. I frowned walking up the steps to her bedroom only to find it empty. I let out a heavy sigh and laid on the stairs scrunching up my legs to fit.
I hated being alone, I hated being forgotten. I pulled out my cell phone and dialed her number only to be ignored after the 2nd ring. I rolled my eyes and opened up a new text "I'm hungry..." I sent to her as I got up and walked to the fridge finding it empty. My phone beeped and I looked down only to see it was a text from Melissa rather than my mom. I dialed my mom's number again but it went straight to voice mail meaning she turned it off.
I sucked my teeth and pulled out my phone dialing Melissa's number. "Hey girl!" Melissa said in an overly happy voice. "What are you doing?" I replied. "Just got out of UNI. Thinking about going to this crazy party tonight. Want to come?" "I don't know." I replied playing with the chipped nail polish on my fingers. "Oh why do you sound so down?" Melissa asked losing her happy tone. "She's not here again, she won't pick up her phone. She turned it off so I can't call her. I'm just frustrated." I said honestly. "Well then lets go out and party, even better if she finds out right?"
I laughed through the phone knowing that I had told Melissa my plan thousands of times. I had tried so hard to get her to notice me, I got good grades, I made the honor roll, I went to help out at soup kitchens. I did everything to try and get her to notice me I was perfect, so perfect it hurt. That didn't work and I was done playing that card. If she wouldn't notice me smiling with an A+ report card in my hands she would notice me at the front door in hand cuffs. It sounds insane but I just needed some sort of attention, good or bad. I wanted her to remember she had a child.
"Ok, I'm down." I said biting my nails. She chuckled, "Alright then babe, I'll come pick you up in an hour so be ready. I'll have clothes for you to." "Ok, see you then" I replied hanging up the phone. Melissa had been my neighbor from the time I was 7 to the time I was 14 she moved away last year when she got an apartment near her University. I missed her like crazy but we stayed in touch and she included me in everything. She understood how my mom was. She would sneak me in her window late at night if my mom wasn't home. She would help me with my homework, sneak me left over's from dinner. She meant the world to me and even though she wasn't blood she was worth more than the only blood I had.

I pulled on the studded leather jacket over my white shirt that read f*** you and a pair of shorts that were smaller then I was used to accompanied with a pair of red high tops. "You look so good O.M.G." I laughed as Melissa gave me a once over. I didn't have a lot of clothes I liked, I'd say half of the stuff I wore was Melissa's or use to be Melissa's.
