Mark was homeschooled for two reasons: he had no friends at school and he suffered from a rare illness that required him to be constantly monitored.
As he was doing his math homework late into the evening his phone vibrated in his pocket.
Mark! I am awake! It is Saturday. No school!
Haha it is Friday night here and I'm doing my homework. What do you do on saturdays?
I sleep. Nap nap. >.<
Do you have friends?
I have lot friends. Today I do not have uh I do not know how to say in English. Sword? Sword fighting?
You do sword fighting??
No no. It like this.
*insert picture of fencing team*Oh! It's called fencing! That's so cool. Are you good?
Yes. My dad teach me. I love it lots.
That sounds fun. I don't participate in sports.
Why?
I am sick.
Oh no mark. Take care of body. Go to sleep early and you will be healthy. ^-^
Haha I wish it worked like that. I've been very sick for a long time.
Mark that no good! What is wrong?
The doctors are not sure. This is why I am homeschooled.
Oh. I'm sorry. Please get better! You are my good American friend.
I will try my best.
Mark said this even though he knew it would not get better. The doctors told him he would never get better unless a miracle happened. In fact he was only expected to live until 30. This short time limit made his parents feel obligated to do everything for Mark, but he felt it was unnecessary. He honestly felt happy that he had a time limit on his life so he could cross off his "100 things to do before I die" list. Some find it morbid that he had one, but it comforted him a bit.
When you not sick come visit me?
Maybe. I have never been out of the country. My parents might say no.
But you are taiwan person. You must go to Asia at least once.
Yeah, I guess. I'm gonna go. Talk to you later.
Bye mark! Love you friend!
