Chapter 1: Birthday Surprise

My name is Stephen Watts. I am probably the most unnoticed boy in all of Florida. Nobody ever cares about where I am, what I'm doing, or who I'm with. Me and my family (if that's what you want to call my mum and I), live in a small town by the name of 'SunField' and if you ask me, it's probably the weirdest, least important town in all of the world. I mean, nobody even knows it exists! The population of our town is 398 people and most of the population revolves around small amounts of land and sheep. I go to the only school in SunField, 'SunField High School & Primary School.' As you can see, my life is pretty boring and nothing ever happens here. I don't have any friends, my life is pretty sad. But sometimes I think, maybe, just maybe, something will happen.

"Stephan!" Mum called "Stephan, get down here!"

"Coming mum!" Every morning my mum makes me cook breakfast and feed our sheep. The only good thing about my life was the fact that my mum and I, owned the biggest section of land in all of SunField.

"Happy Birthday sweet heart!" Mum chuckled. She handed me a small parcel wrapped with brown baking paper with a chewed up bow sitting on top. I smiled widely. Even though my mum took no effort in wrapping anything, she always did her best in getting me the best present available in SunField. The only time I get things is on my birthday. But the things I get, only ever last well, at least a week. When I turned ten, my mum had gotten me a robotic dinosaur that walked on command, but then fell apart two days later. On my thirteenth birthday, my mum didn't get me a present. Instead she had taken me to the only theme park in SunField. It was pretty crappy that theme park was. One year the roller coaster fell apart with a young couple on it. I don't ever want to go again.

"Oh mum, you really shouldn't have, I mean, it's only my 16th birthday there's nothing special about that is there?." I expressed sarcastically.

"Are you kidding? It's the most important birthday to me." Smirked mum.

"And, why is that?"

"Because it's the year you get to start driving!" Mums hands were in the air and I could tell she was very excited. It was true, I was starting this year and I was overwhelmed with excitement as well. Mum was getting pretty old now. She was 56 years old and she had wrinkles all over her face. She was wearing a small green dress with one strap connected. On top of that, she was wearing a pink apron with lace edges and she had some red oven mitts over her shoulder. Her hair was in a small bun and her eyes were covered in purple eye makeup which I always hated. As for me, well, I was still in my pyjamas.

"Come on! What are you waiting for? Open it!" Mum was hopping on the spot with excitement like a movie star was about to burst into our house and give us a million dollars or something. I took off the bow carefully like it was a valuable glass, and shredded the paper off the present. Then I looked at what it was. A box? I know that doesn't sound weird to get a box or anything, but the box, was empty.

"Er, mum?"

"Yeah?" Mum was still smiling with happiness and her voice sounded too good to be true.

"Um, this box it's, um, empty." I said

"No it's not!" Mum said in a harsh but sarcastic kind of voice. "Look inside." She exclaimed. I took my confused eyes off my mum and back to the box. I slowly took the lid off and stared inside. There were two small words written on the bottom of the box. Look outside. I stared and stared more confused then ever.

"Well, what are you waiting for? Christmas perhaps? Look outside!" Mum was beaming now and was actually jumping on the spot. My eyes drifted off the box and floated towards the door. What could it be? I thought. A bike? A dog? A helicopter? The more I thought the more confused I was. I walked unsteadily towards the door and yanked it open. There stood a beautiful golden car shining and blinding me with its own reflection. It was absolutely the most amazing car I had ever seen!
