Michael was worried sick. It had been a week since the school play, and Jeremy had gone through a lot. He was currently out on a date with his long-time crush Christine Canigula, but Michael could tell something was off. Before the squip arrived, Jeremy got this spark in his eye when he talked about Christine. But when Michael had congratulated him on his date in the morning, his expression almost seemed forced. Michael tried to tell himself that it was nothing, that he was overreacting, and Jeremy would come home happier than ever. So he popped open a beer and began playing Apocalypse of the Damned to keep himself from stress-chewing through his entire jacket. He was halfway through his beer when he heard frantic knocks at his door. Frowning, he paused his game and hurried up the stairs. He was not expecting who he found outside his door.

Christine grabbed him by the hands after he opened the door, a panicked expression growing quickly on her face. "It's Jeremy," she started. "He just collapsed! I don't know what to do!"

Michael's heart stopped. "Where is he?" he asked, trying to keep himself from a rising panic attack.

"At the park," she responded quickly.

Michael nodded and rushed downstairs. He grabbed what he was looking for and made his way back up the stairs, taking them two at a time. "I'll find him," he told Christine. She nodded in response as Michael pushed past her, his worries deepening.

After turning three blocks, Michael reached the park and frantically scanned it, searching for his best friend. He found him huddled at the base of a bench, shivering every so often. Michael ran over hurriedly and wrapped his hoodie over Jeremy's shoulders as he helped him sit up. "Hey, Jer, please wake up, buddy," he said as he held back the tears rising in his eyes. Reaching into the small bag he had brought, he pulled out a bottle of red Mountain Dew and flicked the cap off.

"Please let this work," he prayed, pressing the tip of the old bottle to Jeremy's lips. He could see him swallow and his grip tightened slightly. It was only when Jeremy stirred slowly that Michael realized he had been holding his breath. Exhaling, he shook his friend gently.

Jeremy groaned. "M-Michael? Where am I?"

The tears Michael had been holding back rushed out when he answered, "The park, crazy, any more burning questions? Cause I've got quite a few for you."

"What happened?"

"Christine came to get me. She said you passed out on your date. I noticed something was off this morning, does it have any relation to what made you conk out?" Michael questioned, feeling himself calm down slowly.

"Oh..." Jeremy started. "It was just..." He looked down, breaking eye contact with Michael as a small tear rolled down his cheek.

"The squip?" Michael pressed softly.

Jeremy nodded briefly, biting his lip and seemingly choosing his words carefully. "... Before I took the pill, I could swear to anyone that Christine was the only person I'd ever fall in love with. But then... HE came. And now... Now that I have the freedom to choose again... I see different people in a new light... But his voice returned last night, telling me I should definitely go on this date, that it was my biggest opportunity ever. He kept me up all night, and yet..."

Michael felt his heart flutter briefly, his hopes climbing. "You don't like Christine anymore?" he asked carefully.

Jeremy shook his head. "No, Christine is a really cool girl, I just don't think I still see her in THAT way anymore... You know?"

Michael nodded slowly. "So... is there someone else?"

Despite the tears that still made their way down his face, Michael thought he saw a small blush creep up Jeremy's cheeks. "I think there is..." That was all Jeremy could muster before he buried his face in Michael's shirt, too embarrassed to continue.

Michael gave Jeremy's back a few pats before responding, "Alright. I think I get the message. Wanna come back to my place?" Jeremy nodded from his place in Michael's chest as Michael laughed. "Alright then."

Jeremy felt himself being lifted bridal-style and looked up quickly, only to have his lips caught briefly by Michael's. "Shall we?" Michael asked, grinning brightly.

But all Jeremy could manage was a small squeak before he nodded and hugged himself to Michael once again, his face as red as the Mountain Dew he had just drank.
