So, time for my thoughts on the most recent episodes of Super. Why? Because my friends don't like Dragon Ball and I need a way to talk about this. So, spoilers I guess.
In recent episodes of Dragon Ball Super, the roster for the universal tournament has been completed. But oh no *sarcasm* Buu fell asleep again! What do we doooooooo?
*sigh* Okay, so I honestly kinda saw this coming. I knew that the second Buu got tired in the scene after fighting Goku, that he was going to be asleep for the tournament. AGAIN. Despite all of the promotional art and all the hype, and the cover of the damn anime on Crunchyroll, I read the signs and knew that this was gonna happen. What I DIDN'T know however, was that he was going to STAY asleep. I thought it was just gonna be a gag you know, like a comic relief sort of thing before all the drama and serious shit starts, but no, Toei went ahead and pulled a straight up bait and switch on us. Why? I don't know, but they did. Now apparently Goku's only idea was Freeza. For whatever reason. Freeza. Okay, I love the guy, he's a great character and an even better villain, probably the best Dragon Ball villain ever in my opinion, but the fact that they're bringing him back for a third time is just strange to me. I guess Toei just has more ideas for Freeza than they do for Buu. I guess it's a good day for Freeza fans but a bad one for Buu fans. Honest to god in the back of my brain during the recent episodes I was repeating to myself, "it's not gonna happen, Buu's gonna wake up and Freeza will be taken down as an option, don't get your hopes up." But it didn't happen. And that surprises me, all this art and hype, and every other character coming onto the team despite the fact that Toei tried to make us think they wouldn't (like with 17) and they just throw Buu out and put in Freeza of all people. But, despite that, I really love what they're doing with it. The way Freeza speaks and moves, and that animation for the transformation was AWESOME. I loved when he punched Goku in the gut, and just looked so smug as he simply said, "my hand slipped." And the way Goku returned the punch and said, "mine too." It's such great dialogue and interaction. You can really tell that Freeza wants to fight Goku, but he knows that he can't because he won't get what he wants. You can tell that he's ready to manipulate Goku, and you can tell that he will do anything to get exactly what he wants. I'm excited for the scene where Goku and Freeza fight the assassins, and I really do hope Freeza stays and that he continues to be written as well as he was in the last episode.
