"Rebecca!" I quickly stashed all of my unlit candles and stuff back into my desk drawer and pulled my chemistry textbook out of my backpack. I started to change to the chapter that I was supposed to be studying before she entered through the door. I heard the door creek open and my mother walks in.

"Rebecca! Didn't you hear me call you from downstairs?"

"No, sorry, Mom. I was in the zone..." I replied turning my head just enough to see her in the doorway and then turned back to my Chem book.

"I'm sure you are," She replied with a sarcastic tone in her voice. "Then, why do I smell smoke?" I heard her voice from right behind me. I sighed knowing what she was going to do next.

"I told you never to steal the book from me, and you can always ask me for it..." She made me move and took her book back from me.

"Yeah, but you'll never let me do it alone."

"I don't let you do it alone because most of these spells can harm you without help," she replied sternly.

"I can handle them, remember. Dad was very powerful and so are you, if I channel Dad then I won't have a problem with them."

"Yes, that's true, but you have to make sure you only do the ones that aren't dark magic. There are very heavy repercussions for them and I don't want you to get involved in them," She paused with a sigh.

"What spell are you wanting to do?" She handed me the book and I flipped the page that had the spell so she could look at it.

"This spell? Why this one?" She inquired looking concerned.

"What are you trying to protect?"

"A friend of mine, Liam," I said looking into her eyes, hoping it would help persuaded her to let me do it.

"You know there's an different protection spell that could work..."

"No, It has to be the stronger one," She looked puzzled.

"I've been having dreams of him getting hurt, sometimes he dies, and I want to keep that from happening," My mother took her time to think for a few minutes before she finally looked like she had decided what to do.

"Alright, fine, but I want to help." I smiled and hugged her.

"Thank you so much!"

"But we do need a few days to prep and get all the stuff..." I opened another one of the drawers in my desk and grabbed all the stuff that I already have.

"I think I got all of it."

She looked at all the stuff in my hands after reading all of the instructions of the spell and said "You're missing one of the items... but thankfully I have some of this species of that root down stairs."

"Awesome, where do you want to do this?" I asked.

"Lets do this in the kitchen, we'll have more room there."
