Scarlett was going to tell him. She had planned to tell him on the honeymoon but something about the way he was acting made her change her mine. He wanted everything to be perfect. She didn't think this would ruin anything, but Scarlett didn't want to take a chance. It had only been a day after the honeymoon but Scarlett was excited. She couldn't wait to see his reaction. Joe was sitting in his office. His blonde hair was short and shaggy. He was working on the computer. Right after the honeymoon Joe went straight to work.
Scarlett leaned against the door frame admiring him work. His blue eyes meet hers. Joe gave her a smile but it didn't reach his eyes. "Hey Scar. Did you need something?" he asked her crossing the room.
"Nope just wanted to stare at my sexy husband."
He chuckled, "I'm very busy, but I'll come out and spend some time with you after I'm done." He kissed her, and turned to walk away. Scarlett grabbed hold of Joe's arm, "Scar I really need to get back to work." Joe whined.
"I have to tell you something. Well we are going to have a baby!" Scarlett felt the muscles in Joe's arm tense. He turned his head but didn't look at her.
"How many weeks?" Joe said in a whisper.
"What?"
Joe whipped around, his eyes were on fire, "I asked how many weeks along are you!" He yelled.
Scarlett flinched and mumbled, "I'm about 6 weeks pregnant."
"Shit!" He yelled and started pacing.
"What the hell is your problem, Joe? You should be happy!"
"Shut-up!" He screamed, "Damn it! You know my parents! They believe in the whole wait 'till marriage bullshit! They already think marring at 18 is stupid! Now they really will think you are a little whore!" Joe put his head in his hands. Scarlett wrapped her arms around his body.
"Baby it will be okay. Your parents love me and we can just say I got pregnant on the honeymoon," Scarlett said calmly. Joe jerked her off and slapped her hard causing her to lost her balance and fell to the floor.
"You stupid bitch! My fucking parents will know! Why can't you understand that?" His face was hard and the muscles in his jaw were tight. His blue eyes looked red.
Scarlett had never seen him so mad. She touched her now sore face. She could already feel it starting to bruise. Joe raised his hand again getting ready to slap her again but stopped himself when he saw her flinch away. His eyes still looked red as he lower his hand and his face softened.
"No one will know," he mumbled, "I'll just get rid of it." He walked out of the room looking at her stomach in disgust.
"Joe, where are you going?" Scarlett asked climbing to her feet.
"Stay!" He ordered her. She stayed were she was, fearing what he would do if she disobeyed.
Ten minutes turned into twenty. "This is stupid." Scarlett said to herself as she gathered up the courage and walked out the office door. "Joe?" she called out.
For some odd reason she felt like she was in a horror movie. The psycho killer roaming the house and the idiot girl looking for the psycho without a weapon, the idiot girl that everyone was screaming at to run away. It was a weird feeling.
The house was getting darker as night was almost there. She didn't know where Joe was until the baseball bat hit her in the stomach. She fell to the ground.
"Get up." Joe hissed raising the bat as if he was waiting for the pitch. Scarlett didn't move she stayed on the floor curled up in a ball. Tears threatened to fall from her eyes. "I said, Get up! I'm taking care of the problem!" Joe yelled and brought the bat down, hitting her in the arm. Scarlett let out a cry when she heard a bone crack. Joe grabbed Scarlett's broken arm and yanked her to her feet. She bit the inside of her cheek to keep from crying out.
He pushed her onto the wall, and then raised the bat. This time he hit her in the head. She screamed out in pain and fell to floor. Scarlett wished the blow would have knocked her out. Joe continued to hit her all over her body mostly aiming for her stomach. She tried as hard as she could to protect the baby. Scarlett thought he was going to kill her. Why was he so mad about having a child? They could always say she got pregnant on the honeymoon and the baby was premature. The bat hit hard on her stomach making her puke out blood.
"I have to fix it," Joe would say before hitting her again. "When it's gone, I'll stop," the bat hit her badly bruised stomach, "Just tell me when it's gone." Blood dripped from her nose and mouth. Her right eye was beginning to swell shut. Blood was even dripping from her ear. "Just tell me when it's gone. I will stop when it's gone." Joe said again before slamming the bat down on her leg. Pain shot through her body. A bone shilling scream escaped from her lips.
"Shut-up" Joe yelled and hit her on the head. This time the blow sent her into darkness.
