Kairyn and Hermione stood outside the compartment waiting for Neville to change into his school robes. Kai who was confused about the sudden redness on the freckled girl's cheeks tried to start up a conversation."By the way, Hermione?"
Hermione who was still blushing, was frozen looking at her hand as if it was a stranger.
"Um. Hermione?" Kai tried again, this time got Hermione's attention.
"I'm sorry, what did you ask?"
Kai laughed, something he hadn't done in a while.
"I hadn't asked anything, not yet." Kairyn answered, his reply further embarrassing the poor girl.
Already bearing sympathy for the girl, Kairyn proceeded with his question.
"I wanted to know about the four houses. I heard back there with Harry Potter and Ron Weasley, what you said about being sorted?"
"Right," Hermione began in her bossy yet business like voice.
"Well, to start, they're four houses. Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin."
Hermione then began the intricacies of each house, their crest, and what it meant to be part of each house. Kairyn admittedly just asked the question to start a conversation, but strangely no matter how much Hermione seemed to go on, Kai found himself listening to every word.
By the time they reached their destination, Kairyn felt he knew everything about the four houses, deciding that if he could, he would like to be in Gryffindor.
Although he had a sinking feeling that he would most likely place in Slytherin. When he told Hermione this she added that although Slytherin is known for it's dark wizards, Merlin himself was a placed in the Slytherin house, and that it wasn't necessarily all evil wizards.
A voice echoed through the train "We will be reaching Hogwarts in five minutes time. Please leave your luggage on the train, it will be taken to the school separately."
Neville looked like he was about to hurl. Hermione on the other hand looked ready to depart. Her head still buried in the third textbook Kairyn had seen since they settled in the compartment.
"I'm guessing the school really isn't in Scotland?"
Kai asked to no one in particular since it seemed his two campions were otherwise occupied. The evening sunlight was gone, the only light in the sky was a crescent moon that barely lit the outside of the train. The only thing Kairyn could make out was a lake and a giant castle that from a distance looked too small to occupy the number of students Kai had seen aboard the Hogwarts Express.
"Well, people do know the school's next to the town Hogsmeade, but there are a number of placed charms around the school from preventing people to enter unless invited."
Hermione answered suddenly. "Its in Hogwarts, a History."
"So the whole school is magic." Kairyn nodded, "Built by the founding four, the namesakes of the four individual houses."
"Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin." Hermione added.
When the train finally came to an abrupt stop, Kai finally started to understand more and more about the school he would be attending.
"Firs' years, firs' years over here, over here." Kairyn traced the loud deep voice he heard to the giant hairy man waving a lamp that looked relatively small in the man's hand. After nearly tripping in the dark, following the man down a steep hill, Kai, Neville and Hermione made their way to a line of boats which would row themselves to the castle doors. Kairyn was told that the second years and older were taking carriages to Hogwarts.
