I look in the mirror
and what do I see?
A face that isn't beautiful,
A face that is me.
I see every imperfection,
I pick out every flaw.
I sense all the grief
And take it in with awe.
The face I see in the mirror
Is a creature, strong with might
That has overcome many battles
Every day, every night.
The face begins to shift
It becomes a mask
It covers all her scars
With just one simple task.
It wears a smile
Although it's not hers
Her secrets are safe
With all the mask covers.
The smile fades
All I see are eyes.
They are filled with tears
She is ready to cry.
An ocean of memories spill
Until every tear is shed
One more thing comes
It is better left unsaid.
All I see is a monster
I see all my fears
screams and shouts
Are all that fill my ears.
The monster has left
I am left all alone
As I stare at the face
And recognize my own.
