There was once a young woman named Ambrosine. She loved wandering through the forest. If she ever got lost ( for the forest was large and dense) she would ask the dryads to help her find her way back home.
One day Ambrosine went deeper into the forest then she had ever been. As she walked passed the piles of flame colored leaves, She heard what sounded like a bell. As she tried to find the origin of the sound she stumbled on to the entrance to a grove. When she entered the first thing she noticed was that while the rest of the forest was losing it's leaves to the autumn breeze. The trees that made up the grove were as green as if summer still rained here. The second thing, at the center of the grove stood an oak sapling with trunk and branches of gold, and with leaves of silver.
"What sapling from heaven fell here?" Ambrosine asked to herself.
"You see before you the sapling, Ariana, placed upon this earth by the Moirai " answered the dryads of the grove. "They put it here as a gift, for it shall grant wishes, but we must warn you each wish that it grants comes with a terrible cost."
Without hearing the dryads dire warning Ambrosine wished for her mother to get well (for she had been fighting a disease for over a year now and the doctors said that she only had but a month left) she then hurried home to see if her wish was granted.
When she got back her mother was out tending her garden. Ambrosine ran over and asked if she was ill but her mother said that she was doing fine. After helping her mother out with her garden for a little bit Ambrosine went inside for the night.
Ambrosine awoke to her father crying. She hurried to his room to see what the problem was. She found her mother white with death.
"They said she had a month left, and she looked so healthy yesterday." Her father cried
For the next few weeks Ambrosine cleaned the house for her father. Each night she would hear her father crying for his lost love. Finally Ambrosine went to the grove once more. As she stood at the gates of the grove a cold wind blew in reminding the forest that winter was coming. As soon as she entered she ran to the oak and wished for her mother alive, again.
When Ambrosine got home she found a long line of families in front of the door, at least twenty people long.
"Excuse me mam, why are all these people here" Ambrosine asked politely.
"The family that lives here had one of their member comeback from the underworld" answered the lady at the end of the line.
Ambrosine finally got into her house just as the sun set behind the mountains. "Farther are you here." asked Ambrosine
"We're in the dining room, dear" her father called.
When she entered the dining room she saw her mother a beautiful as before sitting in front of her father. The next few days were the best of her life besides one thing the people outside were getting agitated that the family could not bring their loved ones back, and worse they blamed the family. One night they finally broke into Ambrosine's home and attacked her family.
Ambrosine awoke to her mother and father screaming, then they stopped and the scream echoed through the house. Ambrosine hurried to their bedroom only to find them both laying in bed, their throats slashed. Written in blood above them one sentence"The Payment has been taken" dripped.
Ambrosine ran all the way to the grove. When she got there it was already dawn, the morning sun glittered on the silver leaves filling the grove with silver light. Ambrosine got down on her knees and wished to be punished so that no one else would get hurt. The gods pitied her and made her the guardian of the grove. As such she is tasked with protecting the grove from all that see to harm and to warn those that come to make wishes. While this might not sound like a punishment she is immortal, and therefore she must live with what she did for the rest of eternity.
(AN: This is a random story that I did for English the beginning of this year and I am not planing to rewrite it, though in my option it is terrible. Also for those who do not know the Moirai are also known as the fates )
