Nathan was heading towards his room when he heard a soft medley being played, he instantly recognized the instrument to be a guitar. He headed toward the source of it and found himself in Tom's room. He lightly knocked on the open door as he watched Tom effortlessly play the guitar.

The older lad looked up smiling at Nathan, "Hey Nath, how was the park?"

"It was fun" he said quietly stepping closer to Tom, "Elvis is really hyper'"

Tom laughed, "really? Normally the silly mutt is dozed off."

Nathan frowned before turning his attention to the guitar, "I didn't know you played guitar, you play really good."

Tom beamed, he smiled at the lad, "Thanks Nath."

"Can you teach me?"

Tom was once again taken aback by the question, "what?"

"Can you teach me how to play the guitar? I've always loved the sound of it and really wanted to learn but none of my siblings play, Jay just knows how to play the drums." Nathan explained looking upset.

"Yeah of course I can teach you. I'm not the best at guitar though"

"You're the best I know and that's good enough" Nathan stated smiling at Tom, who in return felt honored at being asked to teach someone something that they thought he was talented in. He smiled as he let Nathan sit on his lap and placing the guitar on the younger lad's lap. Tom patiently taught the boy the name of the chords and what they sounded like in and out of tune.

"Do you have a song that I can play?" Tom looked around his room before remembering an old sheet music he had from when the boys were covering "iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls. He got up fetching the sheet before sitting next to Nathan and explaining what each of the notes looked like written down and how to play it on the guitar. Tom was left completely gobsmacked at the fact that it took this 11 year old an hour to learn not only the chords of the guitar but also the first 2 verses and chorus of of a well known song.

"Wow you really have an ear for music don't you?" Tom laughed as he heard Nathan playing the full verse this time without the music sheet. Nathan giggled as he nodded.

" That's what everyone tells me, I just love listening to different kinds of music."

"Do you have a favorite type? Or a favorite artist?"

" I love Steve Wonder and in general any jazz, or R&B" Tom looked surprised he thought the kid would listen to something like pop, he really had a special ear for music if he enjoyed listening to soulful R&B.

"What's that?" Nathan asked pointing to the ceiling where there was a hanging parrot.

"That is a gift a fan gave me that I decided to hang up there." Tom explained laughing. Nathan put the guitar aside on the bed and got up to try and see the decoration better, Tom seeing that he was struggling decided to help by surprising the boy, he lifted him up so he was closer to the plastic parrot.

"He's on top of a cob!" Nathan laughed as he could now see the parrot better.

"Yeah he is" Tom laughed as he held Nathan up by his armpits, "And you know what the his job is here?"

"What?"

"He makes sure to guard his cob really good so no one takes it and he watches over my room to make sure no one comes in, you know what happens if he sees an intruder?" He asked a mischievous look in his eyes, Nathan shook his head, "He pecks 'em!" Tom exclaimed as he threw Nathan on to his bed and started tickling him. Nathan laughed loudly as Tom finally let him breath, the lad took his chance and ran out of the room.
