13 years. It has been nearly 13 years since we'd made that promise, and she still freaking remembers?!?! Ugh, sorry to be vague. Basically, my family and I moved to this town when I was four years old, we moved into a big, beautiful sub-division and that's where I met my three amazing best friends, well two now, but three then. In my backyard, we had a big in-ground swimming pool. One hot, summer day when I was five (the summer before kindergarten), I walked out into my front yard to grab a jump rope when I heard screaming from our neighbors front yard.
I stepped out onto the grass toward the fence just a little more, so I could get a glimpse of what was going on, when I saw a young blonde girl, who was about my age with her head pointed to the sky, screaming her head off. In front of her was two little boys, one with dirty blonde, nearly brown hair, the other, with dark brown hair. They both must've also been our age, and these boys, covered in mud head to toe, each dangling a frog in front of the girl. I climbed up onto the fence and yelled "Hey! Hey, you! You jerk faces! Leave her alone, frogs are yucky!" The girl ceased her screaming and the little boys turned to look at me. "She won't play soccer with us!" The little boys whined at me. The screaming girl burned holes in the sides of the boys' heads with her glare.
"Well, duh! Brandon, every time we play soccer you kick my ankles, doofus. And Luke, you always get mad and throw a fit when I win!" The girl screeched. In her sparkly, purple skirt and blues clues, top, she paraded to the fence and climbed up on her side. Her shiny hair was up in pigtails, and her boldness and self-picked outfit made me feel self-conscious of my jean skirt, light pink tee shirt, and brown pony tail. I was just so...plain...and she was just...a huge POP of color and light. She gave me a big smile with her two missing top teeth, and she offered me a muddy palm "Hi! I'm Rachel. Wanna be best friends?" She had such a hopeful tone and I decided immediately, this was the type of girl I wanted to be friends with. I grabbed her hand and shook it, "Hi, Rachel! I'm Natalia, best friends forever!"
But, then something I didn't expect, the two little boys ran over. I still didn't know which was which. The dark brown haired one said "Hey, no faaaair! We wanna be best friends forever too!" And the lighter haired one agreed. Rachel stepped down and shoved the light haired one on the fence. He smiled at me "Hello ma'am! My name is Brandon Peters, will you also be my best friend forever?" I smiled back "Hello sir! My name is Natalia and I would like to also be your best friend forever!" He giggled and jumped down. The dark haired one, who I figured out on my own was Luke, stepped up smiled and wrapped me into a giant hug and yelled "HI I'M LUKE WE'RE BEST FRIENDS FOREVER, KAY?!" I laughed aloud and hugged back "HIYA MY NAME IS NATALIA AND BEST FRIENDS FOREVER" We were lucky enough to all get the same class for kindergarten, We all built unbreakable bonds, we were the best friends everyone envied. So, during kindergarten graduation, Rachel came up with the amazing idea that the summer after our highschool graduation, we'd go on a roadtrip. We wrote a huge agreement out, and made a huge promise. We were practically inseperable...until middle school. Luke got into freshman football...yes in sixth grade. He's like some sort of super-human. With football, he got more interested in the popular group, he started getting detentions, and I started to distance myself, he was changing, and I felt for the worse.
Rachel and I stayed super tight, Brandon and I too, Brandon stayed close with Luke, and was included in the popular group, but sat with me and Rach in lunch and classes. Brandon and Rachel started dating, and I couldn't be happier for them. I had started liking Luke, until he took a turn for the worse and now we're on the Monday of the last week of senior year. Now that you're all caught up, we can get into the good stuff.
