"OH! You make me a, you make me a believer! Believer!" I groaned and rolled over as my alarm SCREAMED next to me...okay, well it didn't scream, but it seemed like it! Ugh, anywho, I dragged myself out of bed and threw on some black, ripped skinny jeans and an over-sized flannel with a black tank top underneath. After brushing my teeth, and my hair, I put on a little bit of makeup and ran downstairs. Both my parents had left for work, and my younger brother Adam who was a sophomore at my same highschool was sitting at one of our bar stools at the island eating a bowl of cereal. I walked over to him and flicked him in the back of his head "Hey, hey. Sup dweeb?" He turned in his seat and looked me in my eyes. He stood up in front of me and towered above me, "What...did you call me?"
Now, I began to get scared I knew what the look in his eye meant. Let's just say, I pretend I'm not ticklish at all, yet in reality, I'm extremely ticklish. He chased me around our house for a good two seconds before tackling me on our carpet and attacking me with tickles, when we heard Rachel and Brandon honk the horn. I can drive, but I don't have a car, so they drive Adam, and I. This whole flick, tickle, horn honk thing, is a daily for us.
When we ignore the first honk and he keeps tickling, they hold one long honk, and then when we ignore that, they each take turns coming inside and dragging the two of us out. Today it was Brandon...who had his own special way of doing things, he first grabbed our back packs and ran them out into the car. Then, coming back inside, Adam and I saw what was coming so we both laid limp on the ground. Brandon threw me over his shoulder and grabbed Adam by the wrist, who remained on the floor, he carried me and dragged Adam. All of this happening with literally not a single word exchanged.
In the car we jammed out to little mix, and then *bum, bum BUM* we arrived at school. Rachel popped her head into the back seat where I was "Hey, Natty. Walk with me to my locker yeah? I wanna have a chat with my girl. Brandon is gonna go talk to one of his little guy-pals" I laughed at the fact that she said guy-pals. "Sure, Rach. We'll walk." Once we parked, Adam jumped out and ran to all his little sophomore friends. Brandon kissed Rachel, and gave me a noogie "See ya at lunch, girls. Love you Rach, you suck Nat." He blew me a kiss "You suck more butthead" And that was our morning, the same greeting and parting every day.
"So, what is it you wanted to talk to me about, love?" I looked at Rachel as we walked down the hallway. She grabbed the end of her braid and started toying with the little strands that came peeking out, and this was her tell, she was nervous about telling me something. "Okay, so look. Do you remember our little deal from kindy? The..uh..the road trip thing??" As soon as she said that my stomach dropped. I had completely forgotten, but I haven't spoken to Luke since the sixth grade! "Oh noo, Rach. I know where you're going with this. No way, not doing it." I yelled, avoiding her eyes. When I did turn and look into her eyes, she was staring straight past me...that meant something dramatic was about to happen. She slowly turned toward me with a deadly look in her eyes. Facing me, she said "Babes, a promise is a promise, whether you like him or not" I turned to her like her face was exploding. "Woah, woah! Are you crazy?! I don't like him anymore. Not after he completely dropped us, and did what he did to me."
When I said what I did about what he did to me. Basically, yes I really liked him back in sixth grade. He and I were in his room one day studying and he was sitting next to me, he'd been joking around with me and bumped his shoulder into mine. So, taking a chance, I grabbed his hand and held it, looking into is eyes for any sort of emotion. When he lifted our linked hands and kissed the back of my hand, I naturally thought he felt the same. considering he, brandon, Rach and I were all neighbors, he walked me home, never breaking our hands. The next day, I realized I never really told him how I felt. So, when I walked to his house, he was standing on his porch with Melissa Workman, they were holding hands. He leaned in and kissed her. I stood there confused and hurt, he was kissing my bully.
When he pulled away, he noticed how hurt I looked, "Natty. This is my..girlfriend." To avoid crying in front of them, I just ran home.
So anywho, back to present time. Rachel just looked at me with a sad frown "Nat, you know it's not like that, I just. I know he hurt you, but I figure maybe, y'know since we're all going to the same college still, we could maybe try to go back to being the way we were before?" I started to feel guilty, Rachel seemed like this was something she really wanted. "Okay, Rach. Okay. I am only agreeing to go because it seems like you really want this to happen." I sighed, but smiled. She squeezed me into a giant hug thanking me over and over.
"Oh. And by the way, Lukey is sitting with us for lunch all this week so we can discuss the technicals of the trip."
