Right after Quinn, Hanson and I strolled into the training room, Four arrived soon and asked us to do laps around the room. It was slightly easy for me since I learned ballet back when I was at home. Home, meaning a place where you find safety, a place that you're happy. That's not my home anymore, this is my home, the Dauntless compound.
As soon as we finish the laps, we just lay on our backs on the cold hard floor of the training room. Some of us trying to catch our breath, some of us drinking huge gulps of water and Four is standing at the other side of the training room staring at us in dull silence, with a cold look in his eyes showing that he's just not that pleased with our running.
"Stop drinking the water too fast, your going to throw it all back out just as fast as your gulping it down." Says Four after a long time of staring.
"What are your initiates doing Four?" I hear a sharp gasp which is clearly fake coming from our magnificent leader, drum rolls please, Eric Coulter! The lot of us turn around and look at him. He's in a black coloured t-shirt and his muscles do look defined through the material, I wonder what it would look like without the t-shirt on though. Argh! What are you thinking Ro?! FOCUS!
"They're resting after doing the laps, we were just going to start before you came waltzing in here." Explains Four, his facial expression he's clearly way too tired to entertain Eric's childishness.
"Well, I was just wondering if your initiates have seen the Chasm yet? If not yet, we could go right now. Come on kids, follow me." Says a sarcastic Eric while motioning for us to the the door, clearly showing we don't have a choice but to obey.
As I got up to leave too, I see Four pull Eric's arms roughly, holding him in place and say something to him which from here looks like, "What are you up too now Eric?"
Eric just wears a well define smirk on his face like he just won the lottery and pulls his arm back. He then brushes the place Four just had his grip on as if Four's touch actually spreaded germs on his arm. I watch the pair cautiously, they have this kind of tension between them, like they were life long rivals and still are.
Four huffs out knowing he's not going to get an answer from the now smirking Eric then proceeds in following Eric out the door and to the Chasm. I just follow behind them quietly with Quinn beside me.
The Chasm is so loud, crashing against the pit walls and spraying over the bridge we are all standing on. It's so loud, I could barely hear it when Eric says to Four, "I want to see how well you've trained your initiates so far."
And with that said he just grabs a random boy and throws him over the Chasm while holding onto the boys hands and placing it on the railing of the bridge, the he says, "Let's see how long you last."
I am baffled by what just happened, it happened so fast I barely had time to blink. One second the boy was standing enjoying the water spraying on his face and the next he is dangling over the Chasm just praying he doesn't slip and fall to his death.
But there is something awfully familiar with the fearsome expression he is holding, I feel as if I've seen it somewhere before. Think Ro think, where have you seen that face before?
And then it clicks, he's the guy that hit me last night! Eric told me he would do something about it but he didn't tell me it was going to be this BIG! I quickly turn around to see Four holding an expression showing as if he's already seen this same scene many times in his life time and the endings are always trageding, like he's just waiting for him to slip to his death. I look at Eric and see that his eyes are filled with amusement like how a child's eyes would light up when they go to a petting zoo. This man is a monster! He sees torture as something that's intriguing to life. He's such a dingle!
But then again, on this day, at this moment, it wasn't only him who is the monster. I too am a monster. And I suddenly realise this now as I watch the boy, whose name I don't know, lose his grip and fall all the way down. The sad part is there isn't even a splashing sound to be heard and I had to rush over to the railing to see if his body had made it down and had the luck of seeing his body hit the Chasm and the water around the body momentarily turning red then back to its natural translucent again. Talk about bad luck!
How the Chasm goes on roaring wildly while washing away a body that could have been somebody's son, somebody's brother, somebody's friend and most importantly somebody's husband. But all of that is gone now as the boy never even got the chance to live another minute of his life.
