True Name

What is in a name?

It was my second anniversary as NCIS director, so with that I thought I would make a little announcement; that is by changing the name panel on my door, to something that reflected the true me.

I had it all organised and as I got off the elevator, I noticed the MCRT was sat all dutifully at their desks completing paperwork while awaiting a call for a case.

Gibbs started to follow me as I passed the bullpen, as he normally would and as we stepped inside my office and closed the door, planted a subtle kiss on my lips, pronouncing 'morning, Jen – your late.'

'Well', I responded 'your daughter decided to leave her school bag in the car, so naturally I had to make the round trip to school again.'

'Ah, I see' as he went to continue his thought, his phone started buzzing meaning they had a case.

'Be safe?' I requested.

'Same to you' he replied and off he went.

As I waited, I started to get the plan underway.

As his team exited the elevator, Gibbs noticed a number of maintenance crews near the Director's Office.

Slowly, as they started to peel away and pack up, he saw Jenny standing admiring something in the little cove before her office door. Curious as it what it was, Gibbs wandered up the stairs.

He stood behind her and read the name, which was plastered in the centre of her door, smiling brightly and not giving anything away to those below, he whispered a thank you in her ear and went back to his desk, not wiping the childish smile off his face.

Seeing the bosses shocked face, McGee, DiNozzo and Ziva, attempted to casually go see what the fuss was about. They all knew the director was married as she wore a simple solid gold band on her left hand, ring finger, but had never met her husband.

As they walked up the stairs they noticed the slight enlargement of the Director's nameplate text.

They could not believe what they were reading.

Her door read: Director Jennifer Gibbs and smiling up at them from the bullpen were the two people who had a lot to answer for.
