Over the next month since my surgery, Charlie and I refused to talk to anyone but each other. I hated that our parents lied to us all this time, and both of us felt betrayed. Elijah tried to speak to Charlie, but Charlie didn't know what to say to Elijah. I couldn't blame Charlie, considering I haven't talked to Ace or the others since that day in my living room. I was angry but most of all I didn't know what to say to anyone.
One day I was walking down the hallway on my way to class when I felt someone grab me and pull me into an empty classroom. Great, no one would hear me scream if someone killed me since I'm freaking deaf and can't yell. As soon as the person pulled me inside, the door closed behind us, and they let go of me.
I turned around to see Ace standing there; he signed, "Please hear me out, and if you never want to see me again, I will understand."
I looked at him and sighed, then signed, "Fine."
"I didn't want to lie to you. When I found out who your dad was, I wanted to tell you the truth right away, and my dad agreed," Ace admitted.
"How noble of you both?" I retorted.
"Come on. I didn't mean for any of this to happen. When I first met you, all I wanted was your help with Elijah. I never planned on falling in love with you, but there was something about you that drew me to you," Ace signed. "I knew if you knew about my dad, you would have gone running and screaming for the hills."
"How do you know that? You didn't even give me a chance to decide," I signed.
"Yeah, but you haven't spoken to me since that one night," Ace signed.
"Because I was angry, and so is Charlie. They lied to us our whole lives, then to find out we're dating a mob boss's children. It's a lot to take in," I signed.
"I know, and Dad warned me that you would hate me when you found out the truth. I guess he was right," Ace signed.
He looked at me, and I signed, "I don't hate you."
"What?" Ace asked.
"I don't hate you. Yes, I'm angry, but I don't hate you," I signed as I sighed.
"Okay, this might be a dumb thing to ask, but why not?" Ace asked me.
"Because I love you, you big dope. You can't hate someone who you love. You can be angry with the person, but you can't hate them," I signed to Ace.
Ace walked up to me. "So, do you forgive me?"
I gave Ace a look. "As long as you promise not to lie to me or keep things from me."
A smile crept upon Ace's lips, and I signed, "That doesn't mean I'm still not angry with you." Then he cut me off with crashing his lips into mine, taking me by surprise. I pushed Ace off of me. "You can't kiss me to make everything better."
Ace looked at me, shocked; then, I grabbed him and smashed my lips into his lips. He wrapped his arms around me as he kissed me back. We have a strange relationship. I want to be angry at Ace, but I missed him; love is so fickle.
We stopped kissing, and he signed, "Can you please talk to Charlie about Elijah? Elijah is as innocent as you guys are, and he doesn't understand what he wronged. He won't even come out of his room now."
I gave him a look and nodded.
"Thank you," he signed.
"You're welcome," I signed back.
I found Charlie at his locker and tugged on his sleeve. He turned to me. "What's up, sis?"
"I need to talk to you about Elijah," I signed.
"Look, I already said I want nothing to do with that family. Isn't it bad enough it fucked up ours already?" Charlie asked me.
"Look, I'm not happy about it as much as you are, but Elijah had nothing to do with this. He's as innocent in all this as we are. Plus, if I can talk to Ace again, you can talk to Elijah," I reasoned.
"Seriously?" Charlie exclaimed.
I shrugged.
"You're such a freaking pushover; you know that?" Charlie asked me with a look. Then I signed something to Charlie, and he exclaimed, "That's not even humanly possible! And I'm pretty sure it's illegal in all fifty states!" I gave him a look, and he finally said, "Fine, I'll stop by to see Elijah on my way home. Will you be fine getting home alone?"
"Oh, I think I can handle getting her home," Ace said as he snaked an arm around my waist.
Charlie gave Ace a look, then said, "I can't believe you sent my sister to do your dirty work."
"What can I say, I know you won't say no to Hope?" Ace smirked.
"That's even low for you, Morgan," Charlie said.
"Well, it worked, didn't it? Now maybe Elijah will stop moping around the house," Ace said to Charlie.
Charlie gave Ace a look, then walked to class. Ace looked at me. "He still pissed, isn't he?"
I nodded, then I reached down and slid my hand into Ace's hand. A smile curled upon his lips, and he leaned down, giving me a soft kiss. With that, we headed off to class.
As much as I wanted to stay mad at Ace, I couldn't. I guess when you love someone even when your head is telling you to be angry, your heart is saying to a leap of faith. I think that is what I was going to do with Ace. Leaping faith to know that he would do nothing to hurt me or least I hope that he doesn't, only time will tell.
