It started 14 years ago. I was living in the UK at the time and was just being born in my local hospital. My new mom and dad were watching me in the room full of doctors and nurses. After five minutes of my new life, my dad brought in my mom’s best friend, Anne and her son, Harry.

Harry’s birthday had just past a couple days ago and he turned four years old. “What’s her name?” He asked my mom all wide-eyed. He came up next to me so he could get a better view of what he was looking at. “Don’t get to close to her Harry! Remember you have a cold.” Harry mom said while pulling him next to her on the other side of the room. “Allison.” My mom said smiling at him. I made a hiccup noise making him giggle. Harry looked up at his mom and asked, “Can I be her big brother?”

As time traveled and we grew up, me and Harry got closer. He became what he asked his mom on the day I was born. He became my big brother, and my best friend. Even though we were four years apart. I didn’t care and neither did he. I could talk to him all night until we saw the sun rising. We would always talked about what he wanted to do when we were older. “I want to get out of this ratty town and be famous!” He joked. I knew he loved this town and always will. But I also always new that one day he wanted to be famous.

A year later his wish finally came true. It was the weekend after our birthdays. I still remember on the day we celebrated our birthday party, (We usually celebrated it on the same day since they days were so close to each other) and he told us the big news that he was going to audition for the reality tv show the X Factor. I always new he loved singing, he would always sing to me when I was younger. But when I heard this news I felt as if I was being stabbed in the heart.

By now, I was twelve and he was sixteen. He had turned into a (in)mature teenager and I was still known as a little kid. But he still hung out with my on his weekends. He would bring me to the movies or rollerskating or to get a hamburger at this really good local restaurant. But now, with him holding up his glass full of sparkinling cider, telling us about his plans to going to X Factor I was shell shocked. I couldn’t believe my best friend was really leaving. I knew he would, but I didn’t know it was going to be this soon.

On the day he was leaving it just happened to be raining. I saw him putting his suite case in the back of his parent's car. I ran down stairs and out in the pouring rain without any shoes or jacket on. It was still early in the day so I hadn't changed out of my pajamas yet. "You're gonna catch a cold!" He said as I wrapped my arms around his neck. "I thought you were going to leave with out saying good bye" I said shyly looking at the ground. I looked up to see his sparkiling eyes staring into mine. "Did you really think I would do that?" He said smiling. "Oh I have something for you!" He said while pulling out a felt box. It looked almost like a wedding ring could be inside. He opened it and a silver charm bracelet shined. It had a broken heart charm on it that said 'Best'. He grabbed it and fastened it on my wrist. Then he pulled up the sleeve on his jacket to reveal the same exact bracelet but with the word 'Friend'. "Thank you!"  I said going in for another hug. I dug my face into the crook of his neck, soaking it with tears. "Try to win"

"I pinky swear." He whispered.
