*Jess*
Beep beep beep. I rolled over and pushed a button on my alarm clock but it still wouldn't shut up. I picked up the nearest thing and swing it on my alarm clock. Unfortunately, that thing was my lamp. The alarm clock exploded and I quickly unplugged it. I got up and started getting ready for my first day of my freshman year. I pulled on a pair of white shorts and a black tank top with white polka dots. I went downstairs and straightened my caramel colored hair. The white shorts made my legs look even more tan. I ate a bowl of fruit loops then started walking up to the bus stop. The middle school and high school start and end earlier than the elementary schools. I met a couple of my middle school friends and we walked the rest of the way to the bus stop.
When the bus stopped, I was the first on. I sat in the seat I usually sat in. I talked with my friend in the seat in front of me. A couple stops later, the bus stopped at an unfamiliar house. I was confused. I knew everybody on the bus. I was one of the first stops in the morning and one of the last in the afternoon. I watched as my major crush stepped onto the bus. I looked around and realized that I had the only open seat left in the high school section. I was helpless as he sat next to me in the seat.
Allow me to tell you a thing. Caden was one of the most popular kids in our grade. I am remotely popular. I have friends from all over the popularity ladder. Me myself, am not popular. But I'm also not a total loser. I'm sort of in the middle. I took out my iPhone and texted my best friend, Leah. When she didn't reply, I just started playing flappy bird. I felt eyes on me and turned my head to look at Caden.
"You lose something over here?" I said.
"No, it's just that, you look familiar." his voice was high pitched but still manly somehow. I don't know.
"Well, I've only been going to this school for five years." I said sarcastically. I had no idea where I was getting all this confidence. !east year I didn't even want to look at him.
"I can't believe I never noticed you before."
"Well that hurt."
"I mean, I noticed you, but I didn't notice you. You know what I mean."
"Yeah, weird is my native language."
"How did you get a high score of 163? It's not human."
"Neither am I. You just can't focus on the numbers. It's easy. You try." I handed him my phone and he played for a minute before handing it back to me.
"12?" I asked him.
"What?"
"Nothing."
The bus pulled into the drop off lane. I got off the bus and headed for the doors. I walked to my locker and found Caden following me. I opened my locker and he opened the one next to it. I took a look at my schedule and hung it on the door.
"What do you have first hour?" Caden asked me.
"Ugh, history." I said with a groan.
"Me too." He said with a smile.
I smiled and started toward my history class. I met a couple friends in the hallway and started conversations but had to leave when the one minute bell rang. I hurried to class and sat down in the back. Caden came in with a few of his friends and took the only seat left: the one to my left. My friend Kim was sitting on my right.
