My Sunshine

Chapter 3

*Caden*

     I pulled my sweaty shirt over my head as I sat on a stump.  We were at the end of Jess' road and we had a mile and a half left to go.  She stood in the road and tapped her foot.  I took a swig of water and splashed some on my face.  I got up and started jogging down the road.  Jess followed.  She passed me and I found myself drooling over how amazingly, beautifully, gorgiously hot she was.  I wiped my face.  I saw her stop and start talking to someone.

     "Yeah, I'm just on my weekly run.  Gotta stay in shape for sports." I heard her say as I neared.  The flirty smile on the boy's face disappeared as soon as he saw me, without a shirt on. 

     "Oh, Cody, this is Caden.  He moved into the house next to mine." she introduced me.  "Caden, this is Cody.  He is a seventh grader who rides our bus." She smiled.  I suddenly realized that she had no idea how many guys were interested in her.  Cody narrowed his eyes at me before continuing to flirt.  I struggled to breath when I noticed he had blonde hair.  She waved goodbye and started walking.  I jogged up to her.

     "Do you even realize that he was trying to flirt with you?" I asked her.

     "what?" she said skeptically. 

     "Yeah, you are really oblivious to all the guys that drool over you.  Especially when you only wear half an outfit."

     "Would any of these guys happen to include you?" she smirked at me.

     "Maybe, maybe not.  But probably the first one." I felt my face turn red and she stopped.

     She stared into my eyes and I was mesmerized by her hazel ones.  I grabbed her waist and pulled her close.  Her hands rested on my chest.  I put my hand behind her neck and leaned forward.  I brushed my lips on hers before pressing them forward.  I just about melted on the spot.  He hands moved from my chest to the back of my neck.  I felt her hands run through my short hair.  I pulled her closer and realized that this is literally her dream come true.  We stood there, on the side of the road, in pure bliss.  She pulled back. 

     "No, no, no." she had a look of confusion and enjoyment on her face.  She looked at me and sprinted back towards the house.  I followed. 

     What was I thinking.  I should never have kissed her.  Tears (manly tears of course) slipped out of my eyes.  Do I regret kissing her?  No, I don't.  It was a terrific first kiss.  I found myself at the front door.  I walked inside and made my way to her bedroom.  I paused when I heard the shower.  I jogged back over to my house, showered and went back over to Jess'. I stood outside her door.  I took a deep breath and walked inside.

*Jess*

     I ran down the road.  I immediately got in the shower when I got home.  When I was done, I decided to put eyes and a nose on the blonde boy picture.  I had my drawing stuff out and my music on and I was about to touch my pencil to the paper when the door opened.  Caden walked in.  He sat on the edge of my bed.

     "Look, I'm sor-" he started to say.  

     "Shush." I said and positioned his head so I could draw his eyes and nose.  I finished and hung it back in its place on the wall.  He stared at it.

     "Wow, that looks really good." he said.  "Hey, I'm sorry.  I shouldn't have kissed you."

     "Do you regret kissing me?" I asked him.

     "No, I've had a crush on you for the longest time." he said quietly.

     "Me too." I whispered.  I looked up from my drawing and our eyes met.  I cleared my throat and looked back down. 

     "Jess."  he said softly.  I sighed and set my drawing stuff to the side.  I looked him in the eye and what I saw was raw emotion.  "I want you to be my girlfriend.". I barely caught what he said.  I nodded and he hugged me.  I closed my eyes and breathed in his cologne.  My mom called us downstairs.  I went and Caden followed.  His mom said they were leaving and would see us later.  He grabbed my had and wrote down his number before they left.  I put it in my phone.  I spent the rest of the day watching Pixar movies.  I tried texting a few friends but they didn't text back. 

     Sunday was just as boring.  I spent half the day in the pool and the other half watching a Bones marathon.  I was anxious for Monday because mos of my friends don't like the popular people.  Neither did I until I started dating one. 

     Monday morning came way too fast.  I groggily got out of bed and got dressed.  I curled my hair and applied a little makeup before going downstairs and filling a bowl with Cocoa Puffs.  When I was done, I slung my bag over a shoulder and picked up my volleyball bag.  I walked down the road, listening to the birds chirping in the trees.  I love Georgia weather.  I met my friends at the corner and screamed when someone wrapped an arm around my waist.  Caden laughed and I glared at him.  Cody walked up to us but his smile melted when he saw Caden.  Honestly, does he really think he has a chance with me.  He's two years younger than me.  The bus came and we filed on.  Caden sat down in the seat next to me. 

     Anna got on sometime later and sat in the seat in front of us.  "Since when are you two so cozy." she asked.

     "Since she became my girlfriend." he said.

     "Aw." she said, making a heart with her hands.

     "So, how's Jacob." I said with a smirk.  Jacob is her boyfriend.

     "Shut up." she said before turning around.  We pulled up to the high school and got off.  We walked to our lockers.  I got my history stuff and walked to class.  I sat in the back next to Kim.  Caden came in after the warning bell and sat next to me.

     "Hey, Anna told me you were dating Caden.  Nice catch, better keep him."  Kim whispered to me.

     "That girl can't keep her mouth shut." I said.  Caden pinched the side of my stomach and I jumped.  He moved his hand down my leg and squeezed my thigh just above the knee and I squealed, earning me a warning glare from the teacher.  I pinched him below the table.

     "Ouch.  Trim your nails." he said.  I started working and he squeezed y knee again. 

     This is going to be a long day.  I thought.
