Elliott's POV;

We managed to get me an appointment for 10 AM the next day, and by now, I'm a lot more anxious.

I woke up with a fever.

We got to the office, and they made me wear a mask.

Zack's legs bounced nervously next to me, while I lean forward, resting my elbows on my thighs.

In the corner of the waiting room, there was a childrens spot, which doesn't surprise me, seeing as I go to a doctor that specializes in pregnancy, and children.

There were a few kids, and they sat, and played with the blocks and cars that were on the table.

I noticed a small kid, that looked to be about 2 or 3, sitting by himself, a few blocks in front of him.

He had curly ginger hair, and bright hazel eyes.

Is that what our baby will look like? My hair, and Zack's eyes?

Or is he gonna follow Zack's hair, and my eyes? Or be an exact copy of me? Or Zack?

I want to know so bad.

I hope to god he doesn't follow my hair. I hate it so much.

My natural hair is an exact copy of my mothers. Bright orange, and curly.

After I ran away, I spent most of the time dying it, or covering it in some way.

I sigh, trying to get my mind off the thought.

She's in prison, doing life, what can she do to me anyway?

I lean back into Zack, and he immediately wraps his arm around me, pulling me closer.

"It'll be fine, love, I'm sure it's nothing." I say, letting my hand rest on his hand.

"Elliott Harmen?" A nurse calls from a door by the front. I hop up, Zack following.

She smiles. "Hi there. My name's Min."

I shake her extended hand, and offered a smile in return, before realizing it was covered by the mask.

Min leads us back to an unoccupied room, and I climbed up onto the examination table.

"What seems to be the problem today?" She asks, taking a seat at the computer.

"Well, I've been really sick lately, like, beyond morning sickness. Plus my morning sickness stopped after the first 2 months. I'm about 6 months along now. I've also been vomiting, and have a fever."

She pauses for a minute, and glances back. "You said you're almost 6 months pregnant?"

I nod, sneezing into my elbow.

She stands up. "I'll be right back."

She rushes out, and I look back to Zack, who had an equally confused look on his face.

My worry and anxiety starts coming in waves now, and I start messing with my shirt.

A few minutes pass, and my doctor comes in. He's a tall blond man.

He sits down, and looks over the computer.

Min comes back in, with a cotton swab, and a baggie.  She sets them on a table next to me.

"I'd like to test you for the flu. With it being the time of the year when it's the most active, and your symptoms, it's very likely that it'll come back positive."

He pauses, before continuing.

"Now, I don't want to alarm you, but I need you to listen to me very carefully. The flu can be extremely dangerous, especially when you're pregnant. When you're pregnant, your immune system is lowered, and makes your body open to more infections and sicknesses than usual."

By now, my heart is beating out of my chest.

"W-what does that mean?" My voice shakes.

"I really don't want you to panic, because most of the time, pregnant women who get the flu, end up fine, but I want you to take me seriously. The flu, while pregnant, can trigger early labor, and the chances of a baby being born at 21 weeks living, is very very low. An abnormally high fever can also cause birth defects. Not only that, it could be dangerous to you."

It's hard to breathe, but I try to steady my breathing the best I can.

"How do we stop that from happening?" Zack asks, sitting up straighter, a deadly serious look in his eyes.

"Well, we're going to test you, and if it's positive, we'll prescribe you some pregnancy safe antibiotics, and you'll need to get as much rest as possible. Try to stay off your feet. Also limit your contact with people."

Min smiles at me, before putting the cotton swab down into my throat.

"It should only be about 15 minutes." My doctor stands up, as Min heads out. "We'll talk more when the test comes back."

He's barely out the door before I'm off the table, and on Zack's lap. I can't stop the tears.

He just holds me, rubbing my back.

"Shh, it'll be okay Elli. We won't lose him."

I don't respond, just push my face deeper into his neck.

-

15 minutes seem to pass by in a flash, and I hear the door open again.

I turn around, but stay on top of Zack.

"The test came back positive." My doctor says, handing me a sheet of paper. "I want you to do exactly what I said before. Stay off your feet as much as possible, take your medicine, and limit your contact with people, and the cold. I want you to make an appointment up front, for a week from now. If your fever doesn't go down, I want you to contact me sooner."

I tense up again, and take a deep breath before nodding.

He gave me a small smile. "I called in antibiotics already, so they should be ready by the time you get to the pharmacy. Please take care, Elliott."

We stand up, and shake his hand.

Fuck.
