This is just something that I decided to write, it's not part of the blurb I wrote before. I do want to give the character a name and am open to suggestions. I'm actually thinking of writing more with this character, so I'm going to have to name her soon.

Her heart hammered loudly in her chest, as if threatening to blow her cover. She waited. After a moment a calm silence washed over her and she inched forward again. The metal walls of the vent shook slightly as she moved past. Now, you might ask why she was hiding in a vent, but unless she decided to ask the question that had been endlessly bugging her, this was the only way to get answers that she could think of. Now, inches away from the grate that separated her from her family, she listened.

"When the bills come we're certainly going to have a problem." She heard her father mutter to the rest of her family. Though she couldn't see, she could tell her mother was nodding.

"That's not your biggest issue." Her aunt insisted while her grandparents most likely nodded.

"The biggest issue is what to do with that child of yours!" Her uncle loudly stated.

"You should send her someplace where she can learn to be normal." Her aunt said as if it was a fact that everyone ought to know. She bit her lip and waited for her mom to come to her defense.

"We've..... thought about it." Was all her mother said.

"She's trouble I tell you!" Her aunt shouted. It was time to go back, she had heard enough. She slowly moved backwards, a rather hard task to do, and dropped onto her bed, closing the grate as she left. Reaching under the bed, she pulled out a small, slightly torn sketchbook, and began to draw. Drawing calmed her growing nerves. It was a way to escape.
