Chapter 2

My alarm clock buzzed as I rolled out of bed to shut it off. I groaned, then I realized what day it was. It was Wednesday!! I ran to the shower all excited because it was my first day at the vet clinic I was working at. They had given me a few days off so I could move in and stuff. My boss seemed really nice over the phone and email. I hummed as I stepped out of the shower. I wrapped a towel around my wet body and combed through my tangly hair with my fingers. Then I left to go and get dressed. I didn't put any makeup on because I didn't really see a purpose in putting makeup on my acne when the makeup was only going to make it worse than it already is. I threw on my scrubs and tennis shoes. I looked at the time. It was 7:30!! I had to be at work by 8:00 and I still had to eat breakfast and walk to the clinic. I ended up shoving a granola bar in my mouth and headed for the door. Couper was curled up on the floor asleep. She would be ok until I got back at 3:30. I grabbed my bags then ran out the door. I turned around to lock it. Once I whirled around again I was startled to find Harry standing inches away from me. "You look like you're in a rush. Do you need a ride to work?" He asked in his slow raspy voice. "Yea sure." I said, happy that I wouldn't be late for my first day of work. We walked to the elevator together while making small talk. "So what do you do outside of work?" Harry asked as we stepped onto the elevator. "You know that barn out behind the complex?" I asked and he nodded. "Well I have a horse who I board back over there." I said cringing as I expected harsh words about how stupid my obsession was. "Really?" He sounded excited. "Uh yea," I said, not understanding why he was excited. "I have always wanted to ride a horse! But there aren't any places in Holmes Chapel to ride. They are all cow farms and who wants to ride a cow? Their bulky and weird." He rambles. "Well you should come and ride a real horse. My horse, Drifter." I said I was most likely way more excited than he was because I had never found a friend that was into horses like I was. Nobody at school ever asked me how my horse was or anything. Yea they would come and ride, but they had only wanted to stay for like an hour. Never for the whole day, this was exciting for both of us. "Are you busy after work?" He asked as we stepped into his car. "I think I'm free." I said. "Well now you're busy." Harry sounded like a 5 year old and after he said that he tapped my nose with his finger.

We were now on the road listening to the radio. "Where do you work?" He asked. It was then I realized that I forgot to tell him where the clinic is. "Helena Animal Hospital." I said. "Oh I know where that is!" He exclaimed. "I work right by there. We should meet up for lunch sometime!" He says. " Yea because who wouldn't want to have lunch with you?" I questioned. He pretended to be hurt. "That's not very nice." He pouted. "Well the world isn't always nice." I said calmly. "I'm sorry." He said quickly. "For what? You didn't do anything wrong." I said emphasizing the word you. "I know, but whoever or whatever made you feel that way I'm sorry." He said awkwardly. "You don't have to be sor" I was cut off by a familiar beat on the radio. I widened my eyes in surprise. "No way!" I scream, sounding like a hyper active 4 year old. "What what's wrong?" Harry asked clearly worried. "I LOVE 5 SECONDS OF SUMMER!!!!" He turns the radio up and She Looks so Perfect blasts through the car.

"She looks so perfect standing there in my American Apparel underwear and I know now that I'm so down. Her lipstick stain is a work of art I got your name tattooed in an arrow heart and I know no that I'm so down." I shouted as the song blasted through the car. I turned it down and blushed, figuring that he would be covering his ears but he was laughing which made me laugh. Once we were done laughing our heads off he said,"We're here." I looked out the window and sure enough we were at the clinic. He turned to me saying,"Gimmie your phone." I handed it over. I trust people way to easily. That is how I always end up heartbroken. All of a sudden I felt something hard on my lap. It was Harry's phone. I looked at him questioningly. "Put your number in." He says like its the most odvious thing in the world. I blushed and quickly put my number in. I gently layed his phone on the dash bored as he threw my phone right at my face. "Don't break it!" I almost screamed at him. "That's what lifeproofs are for." He smirked at me. I rolled my eyes and got out of the car. "Bye bye!" I hear his childish voice scream as I shut the door. I smiled through the window and headed to my first day of work
