Nora

The third time I'd met Calvin, was at Collin's birthday party. We'd been texting and calling everyday since the coffee shop run in, and had connected as friends a lot more. I'd found out that his child hood show was He-Man, and that his favorite food was pineapple.

He'd invited me to Collin's party, asking if I could appear to look, well, fairy like. So I dressed up in my white shoulder sleeved dress, with a lace layering and a cotton base underneath. I'd braided my hair and intertwined daisies into my cotton candy colored blue hair and slipped on nude sandals with little daisies resting on the top of the shoe. I'd brought "fairy dust" and his birthday gift along with me in my purse and headed out to the address he'd sent me.

When I arrived I sent Cal a text and made my way up the path, taking in the sound of children laughter coming from their backyard. Calvin had opened the door and he stood in his glory, black hair falling in his face, Iron Maiden ripped tang top adorning his toned upper body and black jeans matched with black and white sneakers.

"So you followed through with my request?" He motioned to my outfit and smiled at me obviously pleased.

"Well, if Collin wants a fairy, he'll get one." I shrugged and crossed my arms over my chest.

Calvin waved me in and had instructed me to wait for him to call for me in a few minutes. His tall figure walked to the sound of children and when I heard fits of excited screaming, he'd finally called my name.

"Nora! Come out here!" I didn't have to hesitate because I'd already stepped foot into the rest of the house and onto the patio where Collin stood surrounded by his friends. His eyes landed on me and he took off running, me meeting him half way and greeting him with a wide hug.

"Hey my favorite boy," I mumbled and swayed him off the ground still hugging him. "How are you?"

"I'm happy now that my favorite fairy is here!" His small body clung to mine, his small arms keeping him in my grasp. He'd pulled away finally and I'd set him down, kneeling to his height.
"Well, you can thank you're brother for that," I'd pointed to a grinning Calvin. His eyes lit up and looked between the two of us.

"He summoned you for me? No way!" He screamed and slapped both hands to his face and stayed wide eyed. "This is the best birthday ever!"

We'd cut cake later, sang happy birthday and played 'catch the fairy' with all the kids. I did more physical activity today than I have ever in my life. When it came to cleaning up, Calvin and Collin's parents had told me no, but I'd insisted anyways. His parents were sweet people, and treated me with the kindest regards, seeing as my presence had brought their youngest and oldest son such happiness today.

"I think that's it Nora, that's the last of the dishes." Joan had let out a breath and gave me a grin. "It was so nice to meet you hun, the boys talk a lot about you."

"Mom," Calvin groaned walking in at the same time that she'd made her last remark. "Shut up, Nora, Collin is requesting your presence in the play room."

I stepped out of the kitchen and walked towards the play room, stopping at the doorway.

"What do you need my help with little man?" I chimed and watched as he turned to face me.

"Do you grant wishes?" His voice wasn't the excited little boy voice he had earlier, this one was worn out, tired and sounded scared.

"Only for you I do," I smiled softly and walked over taking a seat next to him.

"Can I use my one last birthday wish?" He looked up at me with big doe eyes and leaned against me. I'd reached for the remaining glitter in my bag and nodded.

"Of course you can."

He let out a breath and closed his eyes. "I wish for you to keep my bubby happy when I leave, like you keep me happy." His voice wavered, and then fell silent. I poofed the glitter up over him and nodded, my heart sinking at his last wish.

How one little boy, so young, could care so much for someone else instead of his own deteriorating health was absolutely gut wrenching. Calvin wanted anything to keep the boy healthy, but Collin only wanted to keep his brother happy.

After Collin later fell asleep, I'd shut off his bed room light and left his door cracked, before walking to the living room to see Calvin sitting, his eyes trained on the family photo resting on the mantle piece of their tv stand.

"Calvin?" I whispered walking to him, and took a seat on the opposite end of the couch.

"Hm," He mumbled quietly before looking at me. "Would you like a ride home?" He offered up and I nodded not saying anything else. I stood up along with him and followed him to his car, climbing in and buckling up.

The car ride was silent, the radio playing softly in the background. I snook a glance at Calvin and pointed out to him which house was mine. He pulled up the the curb and looked over at me again for the night so far, his eyes focusing on my every detail of my face.

"Thank you for coming to my little brothers party, I know he really appreciated it." He chuckled softly and ran a tanned hand through his hair, his accent still new to my ears even after hearing his voice so many times.

"It was no problem, I wanted to come. I had fun." I smiled at him in return and leaned into his passenger seat.

"I'll talk to you tomorrow o-" I was cut off by his abrupt leaning over and the feel of his lips against my cheek. He moved back into his spot and gave me his heart stopping grin. I looked at him, my cheeks stained crimson.

"I'll call you later when I get home." He chuckled and I nodded climbing out of his car. I'd shut the door and walked up my path, shakily unlocking my door with my keys and turned waving to him again before stepping inside. I had gotten to my kitchen when my text tone went off.
