A paper I wrote XD
Why is stem cell research important to you? How could it effect you and your family's health in the years to come?
Stem cell research is a breakthrough in the clinical field. This subject is very
controversial and has few cons but untold potential in what it may be able to achieve.
Stem cell research has been around for over 50 years. During these years it has
improved immensely. Prior to human stem cell research, the research was done on
animals. Through many advances stem cell research has been tested in human trials.
This research has has helped scientist find answers to many unanswered
questions. This research has given hope to some where hope was lost. How would
you feel if you contracted or were born with a condition and your doctor told you there
was nothing we can do but hope for a cure. Stem cell research has been responsible
for helpful treatments for conditions such as: cancer, diabetes, spinal cord injures,
alzeimers, MS, hunnigtons, parkinsons, fibromyalgia and much more.
With that there are two different stem cell. Can you guess what they're called?
Well,One type is the adult stem cells also called somatic stem cells, the other one is
an embryonic stem cells. The adult stem cells can be use to re-fix the same cell it
came from. Example if the stem cell came from the Brain it can only be put to help fix
the brain , other wise if you pit it on a cut on your on it won't help repair that skin. An
embryonic stem cell is a new cell that is undetermined meaning it can help in any
place its needed and will assimilate to its surrounding tissue.
There are few arguments about this research though. The embryonic stem cells (EMC)
use the blastocyst of the embryo. The problem that arises here is that these inner cells
give rise to the entire body of the organism. The ESC's are extracted from embryo's
that are fertilized for intro fertilization. They are donated for research purposes with the
consent of the donors. The creating and and using embryo's for the stem cell research
is the problem a lot of people have a lot to say about it like it's abusing an unborn
child for example.
This is why I think stem cell research is an important thing for me and others who
suffer from terminal and seriously chronic illnesses. Many donors donate their embryos
to find a cure for all these debilitating diseases, they willingly donate knowing it is
going to a good cause.Think about the other kids and adults that go though this
unimaginable pain suffering from FIbromyalgia all the time too. There are more ways
you can help just by supporting stem cell research projects. One day it could be
someone you love that will benefit from this research .Hopefully there is a cure
someday for me.
