Lukas's POV:
I tap my right foot impatiently waiting for the bus to come. Come on. Come on. Come on. Any day now! I mentally scream. I needed to get out of here pronto. I sighed in frustration as I got up and paced around. Why did I have to be an idiot and go there at the wrong time? As usual. Damn it. I hate things that blow up in my face and not knowing what to do.
My phone started ringing making me jump out of my skin. Shakily I pulled it out of my back pocket and answered.
"H-Hello?", I answered my voice shaking slightly.
"Bro where the hell are you?", my friend Jacob asks.
"Don't worry about it."
"Don't worry about it!", he yells. "Bullshit. We have been looking for you for three freaking long ass hours! Where are you?"
"I'm leaving.", I say tiredly.
"Leaving? To where do think your ass is going Lukas?"
"I don't know and I don't care where I end up. I need to get out of here."
"You are not going anywhere Lukas. If you get caught out there, you're going back to juvie and you know it."
"I know Jacob!", I yell losing my patience. "If I stay I go back. So what's the fucking difference?"
"They're going to have a little more mercy on you."
"Yeah right. Like they want to help a street rat."
He sighs. "Just stay and hide until this all blows over. Please."
"I can't Jacob. They already alerted the police. I need to get out now."
He's quiet for five minutes. "Take care Lukas. Hope everything works out."
"Thanks, I'll let you know what my situation is when I get to a safer spot."
"All right.", he says defeated.
"Bye Jacob.", I say tightly and I hang up.
Finally I see the bus's grim headlights. I look at my watch, 1:25 am. Holy shit. I didn't realize it was so late. I hastily put on my backpack and was practically running when the bus came to a halt and opened the doors. I clambered up the steps and paid my $12 to the grumpy old driver who just stared down at me.
Feeling uneasy by his pale unnerving stare, I pulled my faded black Nike hoodie closer on my body. I scan the passengers or really passenger. An old woman with fading grey hair, warm brown eyes, and large granny glasses but they seemed to suit her perfectly. She smiled kindly at me and I forced a smile back at her.
I took a seat at the back of the bus and hissed in pain. I felt the left side of my rib cage and managed to cover my scream in pain. Yup definitely cracked my ribs. Great. Just great. Can this night possibly get any worse?
I sighed, pulled my hood over my head, and leaned my head back and fell into a dreamless sleep.
***
I woke up to the sound of rain and thunder. Oh really! Just fucking great. I thought to myself. I swear the universe is out to get me. I look around but the old lady has left. I pop my neck and walk over as the bus driver pulls to another bus stop. Luckily it's empty.
"Is this your stop?", he asks in a gruff voice.
"Yes sir."
He opens the doors and I step off the bus into the pouring rain.
