Chapter 1: Too bright

"Tandy Walters?"

I jolt up, unaware of everyone staring at me as I'm in a daze.

"Tandy Walters, would you care to demonstrate the new equation?" Mr. Smith asks.

"Um... sure." I say hesitantly.

I stand up and go towards the board, uncapping a blue Expo marker. Quickly, I wipe the drool from my face and begin writing this so called 'equation'.

'Wait... what equation was it? Hold on... what class am I even in? Oh well, here goes nothing.'

P=br

I cap the marker and turn around, seeing all my class mates just stare blankly at me, then to the board. What are they looking at? My straight black hair? My icy blue eyes? My nose ring? My smallness?

I walk back to my desk, and carefully sit down.

'Awkward...'

"Miss Walters, can you please explain how you knew the equation, even though you were 'deep in dream land'?" Mr. Smith asks angrily.

"Well, even though I was asleep, doesn't mean my ears don't stop working." I snap back.

"Very well then. Next time, don't sleep again in my class."

"Yes, Mr. Smith."

The bell rings allowing us to leave for the day, and I gladly take the invitation. I walk to my locker and start shoving random books into my bag. A girly voice echoes behind me.

"Tandyyyyy! Don't leave! I have something for youuuuu!"

Oh gosh.

I close my locker and turn around, coming face to face with my arch nemesis, Jenna Pionna.

"Hey Tandy, whatcha doing tonight?" She asks.

"Nothing..." I say slowly.

"Great! I'm throwing a party and I would be totally happy if you came!" She says cheerfully.

"Um... thanks, but I don't know if I can make it. If I can, then you'll see me there...?"

"Great! I hope you come!"

She scurries past me and heads to another person, probably asking them to come too. But why would I go? Oh yea, I'm a delinquent. The 'life of the party'. The dumb drug girl. I just shake my head and head outside towards the sidewalk. Piece of stupid Prada.

''''

I begin walking my usual route, making my way towards home, but I decide to stop at the skate park. I only see two people there, who are of course, my friends. Nikki and Russ.

I make my way towards them and sit on the edge of a pike.

"Hey guys." I say.

"Hey, Tand." Russ says and glides his way over to me on his skateboard.

"Hey Tandy!" Nikki squeaks and runs towards me.

They finally reach me and sit next to me, giving me the stage.

"So, Tand. What's up?" Russ asks.

"Nothing. I just didn't feel like going home to my... family."

"You're always welcome with us, Tandy. We're your dang friends!" Nikki says.

"I know, I know... Ugh. This sun is too bright. Oh yea, did you guys get invited to Jenna's party?" I ask.

"No... why? Did she invite you?" Nikki asks back.

"Yea... it was weird. I don't know how I feel about it. Maybe she's trying to hurt me..."

"None sense! We'll go with you. Don't you worry about a thing. We got your back, girl." Russ says.

"Thanks... I think we should start heading out. I mean, we have to get ready for that 'party', right?"

"Yea!" Russ and Nikki say in unison.

And that's how I ended up going to a place I didn't belong.
