I am (Y/N) (L/N). Born in Albany, which isn't very far from New York City. I am currently at age 19. My family is one that wouldn't necessarily be counted as one of the "higher ups." We qualify more as poor folk. Though, not to being broke. The (L/N)'s have just enough to get on with.

I have one older brother, Joseph (L/N). He's what you might call "overprotective." My parents, on the other hand, don't really care as long as I'm home by sunset. They're good to me, and I appreciate it. There are many people I once knew before moving down to New York that didn't really have the best lives at home. No more will be said on that.

Joseph went to school when he was younger. I was homeschooled by him and my father. My mother helped sometimes, but she would normally be doing something else. Like being the usual housewife. Cooking, cleaning, sewing, et cetra.

Eventually, I developed a love of reading. It started as poetry and short stories. As time passed, I started reading philosophy and historical documents. I was addicted to every sentence. Every word. Every syllable! Learning something new! Something original!

Every book I picked up was read through carefully before I asked for another. I knew that there was a possibility that I would never have the chance to look at a book again. Women aren't allowed to go to school, let alone know how to read! If any man were to see me sneak into the library, I'd be on thin ice.

"Hey!"

And that's what's happening now.

I know this is a really short chapter and I'm sorry. The next chapter will be better. I promise.
