"Honey? Why do you sound so tired?"
I sighed.
"No reason. Why're you calling me, mom? I'm right downstairs."
"Lazy. Anyway, the doorbell just rang. I think there's something on the porch. Go get it, please?"
"K."
Hanging up, I was slightly disappointed it wasn't Cameron.
Anais came out of the bathroom, and I sent her to collect whatever was at the door.
Spreading out over the couch, I clicked on the TV and put on a recording of How I Met Your Mother, my favorite show of all time.
I wasn't paying much attention, though.
Anais gave Cameron my number almost an hour and a half ago, so why hasn't he called or texted me?
Maybe he changed his mind and wasn't interested in me anymore? It was too good to be true.
Shit always seems to work out like that for me.
At that moment, I felt like Ted Mosby, the protagonist of the show.
He was a genuinely good person, a hopeless romantic, and he was constantly getting fucked over.
I know that feel.
Though he has some tough moments and experiences heart break, he's always ready and willing to try new things.
I finally feel like I'm ready to try something new.
Throughout the seasons, he constantly searches for 'The One'- only running into dead ends.
Was Cameron a dead end, too?
"Kyler!"
Anais was standing at the bottom of the stairs with a bouquet of lavender roses.
She was squealing.
"These were on the porch!" She exclaimed.
"For me?" I was having trouble processing this.
"Oh my god Kyler, who else?" Anais shoved the bouquet in my face.
They smelled lovely.
"Read the card, read the card! God, it's like I'm more excited than you are."
"N-no, it's just that I don't know how to react. No one's ever done this for me before." A blush took over my olive complexion. My heart felt like it was fluttering.
I took the bouquet from her and dug out a card, reading it out loud.
"Your restaurant, 6:00? Wear something comfy n warm :-)
-Cameron"
He would put noses in his smiley faces. I grinned.
"Wow, this dude is bold. Hasn't even had a conversation with you, and he's asking you out! Not like that's a bad thing."
"Right? This is so, so, cute!"
I took a step back.
Wait.
"Anais, how did he get my address?"
"..."
"I may have given him more than your phone number." She looked everywhere around the room but my direction.
I laughed. "Thank you for doing this."
"I didn't do anything."
"Yeah, you did- more than you know. Now, don't different colors of roses mean different things?" I thought back to when my dad would always send my mom coral colored roses.
"You're right! Look it up, Kyler! Now!"
I opened Safari on my phone- searching what coral roses meant, first.
"Desire?"
Anais laughed. I was disgusted.
Through with that, I searched lavender roses.
"Love at first sight, enchantment."
