Chapter 1

This is it. I'm going into these dreadfull doors of Bush High. I sling my grey backpack onto my shoulder and push the heavy doors open.

"Hey Maggot!" A sneering voice calls. Ugh, Sawyer. Sawyer Higgens was the high school 'badboy' or 'player' but seriously, he's just rich and asking for attention by doing absurd things. I continue walking down the dreadfull white hallway untill I reach my ugly red locker.

"Maggot I'm talking to you" Sawyer sneers again this time his voice is coming closer. His croonies laugh and follow him. I feel a cold hand wrap around my thin arm.

"Maggot. You will listen to me when I'm talking to you" Sawyer yells. I look up at his face. His poopy brown eyes stare at me coldly. His usually neat blonde quiff is messier than usual. I stare into his eyes mustering up as much hatred into that look as I could. Sawyer's eyebrows contract as he throws me to the cold tile floor. He starts kicking my ribs harshly as his followers stand there and laugh, pointing at me. A few students pass by us looking at me as if I was just an apple in the grocery store. Sawyer pulls me up to my feet roughly by the front of my light blue sweater. His face is inches from mine.

"You wil listen to me when I'm talking to you Maggot." He repeats harshly. I smirk defiently, I know this will only get me in deeper trouble. I know how Sawyer works. Sawyer's face contorts as he punches my cheek really hard.

"Go kill yourself slut. No one wants you here anyways. You'll do us all a favor." Sawyer spits out as he strides away his croonies following him. Ouch. That hurt. Sawyer always insulted me but he's never told me to kill myself. I push myself up off the ground slowly wincing in pain as I stand up. I walk down the now empty hallways into the girls bathroom. I stare at my reflection. My long curly hair is frizzy in many places and my blue eyes have lost their shine and are now a dull ugly blue-ish grey color. My light blue sweater hangs loosly from my skinny frame. The skinny jeans I once wore are now baggy and are torn in one knee. My beat up black converse are two sizes to small so my feet are squeezed into them. I pull my curly hair back into a ponytail and walk out of the bathroom and down the empty hallway to my english classroom.

"Miss Last late again" Mr. Preston snaps at me as I take my seat in the back of the class.

"Mr. Preston, I heard she was gettin' it on with a few boys in the bathroom" a voice from the front of the room says. I look up to see the back of a blonde head. Ugh Jacob. Jacob was Sawyer's best friend, they did everything together. Mr. Preston looked alarmed as he gives me an evil glare.

"Well then Miss Last would you like to explain in detail what you were doing for the past half hour?" Mr. Preston questions me. My cheeks flare with embarassment as I shake my head and look down at my shoes. The class erupts with laughter and whispers of profanitys. That's basically hows everyday goes by. I get beat up by Sawyer Higgens, then made fun of in Mr. Preston's class and he does nothing to stop it. And when the day was done I was still back where I started. That's basically life. All of us tiny humans just go around in circles chasing our tails, everything out there goes unnoticed. We could have passed many things, a cure for cancer, the meaning of human life, every unasked question, and we choose to ignore them. You see it's the little things that count. To stop chasing something you'll never find and focus on the outcomes that are possible.

. . . . . . . . . .

I've been a junior for two weeks now. Great. Hopefully today will be better. I doubt it though... I walk through the double doors into torchure.

"Miss Last!" a squeaky voice calls from behind me. I sigh and turn around seeing the principal Mrs. Ferry walking as fast as she can in her deadly high heels. Her bleach blonde hair is stick strait as if she used to much hairspray and her back dress is only past her but showing her chubby legs. Seriously? Are the adults at this school even allowed to wear dresses?

"Yes Mrs. Ferry?" I ask. Mrs. Ferry slows down in front of me and trys to catch her breath.

"Miss Last there is a transfer student I would like you to give a tour to." She says inbetween breaths. Ugh transfer students. They ask to many questions.

"Okay." I sigh. Mrs Ferry beams at me as she leads me to the office. The office is a boring place. The front desk ladys just sit there and stare at you constantly.

"Miss Last this is Mister Ballard our new transfer student" Mrs Ferry says gesturing towards a tall guy that I didn't notice before. Okay I'm not going to lie, he was drop dead gorgous. He had beautiful dirty blonde hair styled in a messy quiff and he rocked the look. He had gorgeous green eyes that were staring strait at me. And let me tell you he was pretty tall, it looked like he was at least 6'3".

"Miss Last can you please go show him around the school for me" Mrs Ferry asks in her high pitched voice. I nod and wave my hand in a 'follow me' gesture because words are failing me currently. The boy smirks at me and follows me out of the office. Once we are out in the hall the boy breaks the ice.

"So what's your name Last?" He asks me. Oh. My. God. His voice is pure sexiness, no doubt about it.

"Margaret Elise Last" I tell him. He smirks again.

"I'm Christopher Mitchell Ballard" he says holding his hand out for me to shake. I shake his huge hand roughly glaring at him in the process. He smiles at me.

"Are you ready mister Christopher Mitchell Ballard?" I ask in a mocking tone. He nods.

"Indeed I am miss Margaret Elise Last. Lead the way." He says in the same mocking tone. Christopher pulls out a neatly folded peice of paper out of his back pocket of his skinny jeans. "Here's my classes" He says handing me the paper. I quickly unfold the peice of paper and look at it.

1st Period: English, Preston

2nd Period: Math, Griffin

3rd Period: History, Johnson

4th Period: Science, Von

5th Period: Gym, Maxwell

6th Period: Sex Ed, McHorney

7th Period: Orchestra, Dupree

"Great you have english, history, science, sex ed, and orchestra with me" I sigh. Every student at Bush has to take sex ed unless their parent signs all this paper work saying that their child cant take the class.

"Mr Preston, the english teacher, his room is right here" I say walking towards the classroom door and pointing at it. "You might want to stay on his good side or become popular if you don't want to end up like me" I tell him. Christopher nods.

"You have Mr Griffin for math. I heard you get a lot of homework but I can't tell you from experience because I have Mrs Lyde who is the devil in disguise" I say while pointing down the empty hall towards Mr Griffin's room. Christopher chuckled at my descriptions.

"Every girl in Bush has a crush on Mr Von the science teacher. Personally I don't think he's very attractive but most of the female population does. He's fresh out of college and is a very fun-loving teacher." I tell Christopher slowly as we walk infront of Mr Von's room. "I would explain the rest for you but 3rd period's about to start so I think you'll just find out eventually. Oh and by the way what instrument do you play in orchestra?" I ask him. Christopher smiles.

"I play violin" Christopher says with pride. "and I've played for 12 years so I would say that I'm pretty good" he replies smiling. The bell rings signaling that 3rd period is about to begin.

"Come on Ballard. I'll show you to history" I say mockingly. Christopher smiles and follows me down the steadily filling hallway.
