Frozen waste lands spread all throughout the Southern hemisphere. It has been night for many days. When the sun would appear the inhabitants didn't know, they just waited our the frozen death until the sun came back.
It was calm and beautiful here. Snow covered mountains as far as the eye could see, the rocks wet by melting snow made the mountains look blue and white.
A low fog hung between the mountains being pushed genltly by the wind. And finally the sun begain to grace the frozen lands with it's presents.
The snow melted slightly revelling greens that slept underneath. And then came the first sound of Spring. A little snow bird quietly sang to the new waking world.
Then came the noisy but playful squirrels awoken to find the meal of the day. More birds sang and more creatures played.
A large doe walked calmly threw the trees, looking for some good tasting tree bark. Her long slim legs carry her gracefully threw the hard packed snow and ice.
Something makes her head snap up, ears forward and body still as stone. She did not hear anything nor see anything. But something old, that has kept her alive in her long years of her life whispered to her. A urgent nudge but the doe's stomach pushed right back to the nudge and the doe continued on.
The bark was not good and there wasn't any grass to graze, so from the roots and trees. She was skinny but young; there was a bad limp in her back leg.
Suddenly a low beautiful howl woke up the mountains. The doe stood straight and still as stone. Fear making her limbs numb.
Two more dark beautiful howls answered the first call. The doe started trotting off her leg making her slow. She threw up her big fluffy white tail and broke into a painful and slow canter.
Suddenly she could hear snarling and barking along with crunching snow. She jumped to the left over a fallen log and broke into a full run as a large black wolf snarled from behind her.
She ran without looking back. Suddenly two wolves were closing in on her.
No, herding her to where the Alpha and the rest of the pack are.The Alpha lowered his haunches and stalked slowly to the fast approaching meal.
One shot.
One shot is all the young wolf had.
She angled herself for a good leap straight to the throat. The doe was getting close now, the she-wolf could smell the fear on the doe and it made holding still very difficult. She wanted to give chase, to feel the howl of the hunt, the bloodlust.
The she-wolf snarled and once the doe was in point, she mustered her strength and leaped.
Her fangs sank right in the doe open throat. It was a lucky shot. The she-wolf clamped hard and her weight bringing the doe down. Her pry thrashed and bucked but the she-wolf held her throat, crushing her air way.
Finally the doe movments weakened and the doe went completely limp. Two other wolves came trotting up.
The smallest a copper brown with one yellow eye one amber eye, it's coat flecked with black and white. He bowed his head, and tucked his tail under him as he went around the Alpha.
The Alpha growled at the other wolf, a breathtaking crimson wolf with amber eyes as he tried to take a bite of the deer's belly. The red wolf lowered to the ground and submitted to his leader.
There was a smell. A smell not familer to the she-wolf. There was danger here. True danger for the huge she-wolf and her packmates.
She had to get her pack outta here. So still snarling she lunges at the two wolves to leave. At first the crimson wolf refused the she-wolf dug her fangs in the other wolf's neck. The red wolf submitted and the Alpha let go.
