"Niko, I think this is the first time I'm here before you! Man, you look wasted. What happened to you?" Lynn, the most talented chef, called out from across Big Rico's Restaurant. Lynn followed me into the backroom, as I straightened up for the day. This was uncommon, seeing as I arrived to work early enough to get the restaurant in order for the day.
"I just had a rough night yesterday. Gemini needed me to comfort her for hours. She thinks my parents are in trouble with the Landlord again. I have no idea what that four-year-old is hearing, but she wouldn't stop crying about it. Anyways, what is my hair doing?" I finger combed through my pride and joy. My brunette hair looked like it belonged to a vulture nest! After two minutes of manipulating my appearance, I started to look more like myself. Shining hazel eyes, brown almost black hair, charming smile, yep I feel like myself again.
"Woah, you don't wear guy-liner? Ah man, I owe Liam fifty dollars! Can I just put eyeliner on you so I can prove Liam wrong? I'm a poor art student in University eating Walmart brand Mozzarella Sticks! I need the money!" Lynn was on her knees, already holding her eyeliner in her hands, begging me to let her vandalize my face.
"You better give me twenty-five dollars." I laugh as Lynn excitedly threw her hair over her shoulder and proceeded to mark up my face. "Am I pretty yet?" I question, opening one eye to look at Lynn, who has been breathing my air for the past three minutes. All I got in return, was Lynn's uncomforting laughter. (Buy After Laughter on iTunes)

"Good morning! George, what would it be for you this fine day?" I ask my early rising regular.
George huffs, "Well Niko, I think I'll have my usual. After all, it is a Thursday; I might as well have a constant for this week to end, yeah?" I laugh, after all, that is always what George claims.
"Right! Coffee, black, with strawberry french toast coming up!" I winked at George and gave the chef his order. Work has been slow at Big Rico's this morning, surprisingly. The chef, Lynn, laughed at me once I gave her the slip, which only read 'George ;)'.
"One day there is going to be a new chef, and you're actually going to have to write out Georgie's order, cutie." I blushed and ruffled my dark hair like that'll ever happen. Lynn has been cooking in this kitchen since she was twelve years old.
"Whatever you say, crazy lady, we all know the day you're quitting is the day you die!" Lynn bobbed her head, knowing I was right in every way.
"Go give Georgie his food, for crying out loud, it's going cold." Lynn teased as she already had George's plate made before he even sat down. I giggled and took George his plate and coffee.
My favorite part of the day is when you serve people their food, and their whole face lights up. It's quite adorable, actually. I pretend that people are that excited to see me as they are for their food!

After a long nine-hour shift, I was finally able to go home. My feet were killing me, I decided I made the right choice to drive to work this morning especially after working later than usual. I blasted Panic! At The Disco on my way home as I contemplated my day. It was four in the afternoon, which left the rest of my day empty; empty time for me to try to find out more about the weird things I've suddenly been able to do.
Yeah, my head's been tripping all night; I need another point of view. I got a friend who's committed to sci-fi, he's read every comic he's addicted to Twilight. He'll give you the Goosebumps, but he's never lead me wrong! (😏) He also says that he thinks I'm actually a superhero, with my abnormal speed and ability to move things with my mind. Now, I'm not talking big things but it is still noticeable. Like when you're laying in bed, but want to get your charging cord off of the ground without moving. That's more like what I can do. Though it was quite funny in high school when I was being bullied, due to my passive aggressiveness I took care of bullies by trolling them on little things. From moving things to trip them in the halls to hiding their pencils, I did it all.
After getting settled down I focused on moving a chair in front of me. I pictured all of the bends in the chair, and it moves to the side. Nothing was happening. I tried again but with a banana that was lying on the counter from my last roommate, who left in the middle of the night and never came back since to finish getting the rest of his stuff.
The more frustrated I was getting, the more my eyes squinted shut. I stood there a moment thinking of Justin, and how much he got on my nerves even when he hadn't been present for four months, a mellow 'phlat' sounded from the fruit bowl that held one single banana. I wouldn't consider it a banana now, seeing as it looked like a mixture of yellow baby food and mangled peel.
"Holy sh- I want to do that more!" I started giggling, feeling as giddy as I did back in high school, anonymously defending myself.
"Die! You stupid potato, die already!" I was getting frustrated, after the first initial banana I tried with others to no avail. So, being the problem solver that I am, I moved onto different foods in my kitchen. None of them worked, and I was getting pretty worn down. Why wasn't my mind working like it did when I came home?
My conflicting thoughts were interrupted as my phone rang. Gemini was playing, my favorite song by a band called PVRIS, I was starting to get a bit disgruntled over the caller. "Hey Gemini, is everything okay?"
It was in the space of three seconds after I answered my phone that my ear nearly bled, "Niko!" Gem bawled, "Mommy and Daddy are fighting again and Daddy said we will have to live in a box if they can't pay for my home! You need to help me because I need a good home for my dollies and I only have two left!" Gemini rattled on in hysterics for another couple minutes.
I tugged at my hair in frustration. "Gem-" I started to say before the said girl burst into another round of tears. I started to regret answering the phone because it felt that every time I find out another thing about my family that I should have been informed of in the beginning. "Gemini," I started, with a firm yet comforting voice. "Gem, where did all of your dollies go?"
Of course, the mere mentioned of her beloved dolls sent her into another round of pitiful sobbing. "I tri-tried to sell my dollies to help Mommy and Daddy because they were fighting over money and so I tried to help them! Daddy got mad at me and I don't know why! But I still got my princess dolls still." Gemini rambled on for the next few minutes, giving me an update on her precious dolls. Shocked, I say there for a few minutes before mustering up the strength to keep a calm façade.
I felt guilty, listening to Gemini talk about home. I know I haven't been there enough for my little sister, once I graduated High School I moved into a homey apartment with an old friend. My visits to home were normally very stretched out and inconsistent. I should be there for my family more to at least pay them back for all the good they do for me.
"Darling, it's alright! Niko'll take care of it. Don't worry! I pinky promise that everything will be okay. In fact, hows about I take you out to ice cream tomorrow after work?" I heard her tiny giggle, a sound I was relieved to hear. "Okay darling, I need to go. I love you! Tomorrow at six is when we will get ice cream, okay?"
Gemini let out an excited noise and quickly said goodbye and hung up. I threw my phone onto the couch and dragged myself past the kitchen to my bedroom. I walked past the island, down the hall and walked into a chair. Curiosity got the best of me, and I looked up. In front of me sat the chair that I was trying to manipulate. But that couldn't be possible, I've only moved little things!
I backtracked into the kitchen to make sure it was the same chair, also to look for someone who could have just moved it. After sneaking around my apartment, I found that I was in fact alone. "Whatever, this makes no sense." I again walked past the kitchen to get to my room. This time, I looked around. Two chairs on the island and not in a chair down the hall. Huh, that's strange. I didn't touch that chair at all.
I shrug and move to walk into my room, ready to just put up advertisements for a roommate. After all, I've been doing the math and cutting my paycheck in half to go to my parents wouldn't be enough for me to support my apartment and them at the same time. That night, I went to sleep early with a heavy heart and mind.
(Thoughts? I'd also like to shout out to my best friend all_time_summer happy birthday, cutie!)
