Joel took forever in the bathroom. I didn't appreciate all the people in the house, in fact I asked some to leave. Some surprisingly did leave stating that "this is boring," "not their idea," or that they were "going to go to a place to hook up." When Joel finally emerged from the bathroom 17 minutes later, his party of eight was sized down to a party of five. My party of 12, not including myself, dwindled down to seven. My party peoples and Joel's people all decided to go downstairs to the television. Who knows what they were going to do downstairs. I on the other hand got to deal with Joel.
"Hey, why'd you take forever in the bathroom?" I asked, for I simply needed to know if I had to clean up anything.
"Why are you suddenly interested in my being?"
"I'm not, I just need to know if I have to clean up anything. This is my house."
"No, I didn't anything. I took some time to myself, that's all. Anyway, isn't this your parent's house?"
I had to think about that. I couldn't tell him that, "No, this is my house, my parents live in Denver, and they're paying for me to finish school up here, so I get the house." I had to tell him something different, something that would make him never return.
"Obviously this is my parent's house. I just mean that I'm supposed to take care of it when they're gone from it. They're just doing some grocery shopping, they may be home soon. You don't want to get caught do you?" That was what came out, I felt pretty proud of making it up quickly.
"Ah, I see, but you could always contact them right?"
"What?" I didn't understand what he meant. Did he want me to tell them that he was there? Or, did Joel want me to stall them?
