Liam chews on his lip, his sneakers tapping against the wooden floor as he watched his boyfriend's father take a seat right across from him.

Sadly they weren't home, so in case Yaser would try to kill him or anything, he wouldn't be able to call Zayn for help.

"Now, how're you doing Liam? You doing okay?" He asks, taking a sip of his water through the straw. The brunette nods, glancing around the small diner they road together in.

He thought Yaser was just taking him shopping for the new baby however, the man wanted to have lunch with him to 'talk'.

Liam didn't know what that mean, or what that 'talk' would consist of but he sits up straight being prepared to answer any questions he had for him.

"I'm good, and you sir?" He says making the man nod fondly. "I'm doing well, Zayn doesn't visit me and Trish as much. I miss his little happy ass bounce around everywhere"

Liam snorts at that, "Sorry, we've been busy. I mean I work a lot more and Zee either stays home or wanders off on his own sometimes."

The Bradford man nods. "Or sometimes our friends watch after him too" "So how're you feeling? I know Zee's excited to be a parent"

The brunette shrugs, "I'm excited" Yaser raises a brow at his answer, "Just excited? Not nervous or anything?"

Liam shakes his head, "No, I mean it won't be too bas. I read all the baby books, and I've done research on everyone milestone zany goes through his pregnancy"

The older man picks at his straw, eyeing him suspiciously. Liam tries to keep a smile on his face, especially when they order their food but Zayn's father was pretty intimidating.

"You're such a liar, you know that? You're almost as bad as Zayn." Yaser says, letting out a boisterous laugh which makes him flustered.

"It's okay to be nervous, or scared. You can't put up a front thinking you're prepared straight to the bone. You know when Trisha told me we were having Zayn? I was terrified"

"Really?" Liam asks quietly, playing with his napkin absentmindedly. "Yes, honestly back then I didn't really like kids like that"

The brunette scoffs loudly, "Seriously?" "Don't tell Trisha I said that because she loves arguing with me about the past."

"When we had Zayn it was possibly four months after we got married and we wanted to wait a year before we even had kids but we got pregnant"

Liam makes sure to thank the waiter that brings them their food, sitting up to place the napkin on his lap. "So, were you upset?"

"I mean, I was happy don't get me wrong because I'm so glad Zayn is in our lives. However during that time I was stressed, I wanted to bask in the married life but we couldn't anymore because it was just about the baby this, baby that."

Yaser cleans his knife swiftly with the napkin, Liam already cutting up his steak in little rectangles like he usual does for Zayn.

"I felt unprepared, so it's okay if you feel that way. You don't have to pretend to be ready or chill in front of me because I know for any first parent their scared shitless"

"I wanna be a good father, so I don't want to doubt" "You'll have doubts, trust me I had them all the time before and after Zayn was born. I wasn't sure if I was being a good father or if I was teaching him all the right things"

The younger sighs, "But eventually you stopped caring right? You just went with the flow?" "Yeah, but I didn't start doing that until he was seven. I think the thing that I hope you look forward to is father's day, that kind of gave me a clear view that I was being a great dad"
