Hi guys! I'm Emma. This is my first book that I have ever written, so please no hate. This is about a girl and her horse moving across the country because of her moms job.

Well, enjoy! 💕

Chapter 1: Moving Day

This is it. Today is the day. I can't believe it. We are moving to Louisiana. My mom's work is forcing us. Washington state is my home, my life. All of my friends and family are here. I don't know anyone in Louisiana. The house that we are moving into is huge with a pool and room for horses. I have a horse named Kia that I have owned for 7 years and counting.

I will be starting 10th grade when summer ends. I was looking forward to a full summer with all of my friends and competing in shows all across the state with Kia. But no. We have to move to Louisiana.

I jump out of my thoughts when I hear my mom knock.

She comes in and sits on my bed. "Good morning sweetie. Ready to go?"

"No." I say blankly.

"Oh Bay. I'm sure you will make plenty of new friends! You tend to be good at that."

I look around my room. All that is left is my mattress and a suitcase for my change of clothes for the trip. It is supposed to be 5 days long. Shoot me now.

"I'm going outside to get Kia ready." I say as I am walking out the back door so I don't have to talk to my mom. A short but stocky palomino quarter horse mare trots out of the barn when she hears the back door slam. She lets out a high pitched whinny as if saying, "GIVE ME FOOD."

As I walk through the barn, I think of all the memories. Sleepovers in the loft with my best friends. The bonding moments that I have shared with my past horses. And most importantly, Kia. We bought her as a 1 year old and she has stayed in this barn ever since.

I grabbed 2 flakes of hay and stuffed it inside her Aztec print hay bag. Kia was watching me very closely from her stall.

"Ready to go?" I asked her as I heard our truck start. She looked at me with her big brown eyes, confused. Then at that point, the tears finally came.

I hugged Kia and buried my face into her long thick golden mane. "Oh, miss K. What am I going to. I won't make any friends." She nudged me and I stroked her velvety muzzle. I will be ok, as long as I have you. Right?" Kia snorted in reply. I smiled a tiny bit and for once, thought there was hope for me.

Anyways, sorry for the sucky start.

It will get much better I promise.
