K's lunch flopped into the street, causing them to sigh. Their day had already begun horribly. Woke up late, no toothepaste.
Looking up, they saw a little girl crying.
Her icecream had flopped onto the sidewalk.
K pulled out their wallet, looking between the hotdog stand and the icecream stand with the crying girl.
They walked over to the girl, asking what icecream she had.
She pointed at the mint- chip cone.
Nodding, K pulled out $2 and payed for a new one.
The girl smiled brightly and ran off to her mom. Her mom came over, offering to buy K lunch as a thank-you.
Peased with their new lunch, K skipped along the street.
A dog looked hopefully up at them, ribs jutting out.
K frowned, looking between their hot dog and the dog.
They gave half to the dog before leading it home, where they got in the car.
K drove it to a vets, where its picture was up on the "Missing" bulletin.
K pulled out their phone, calling the number listed.
Within five minutes, a couple of men walked in.
Their faces lit up with joy, and one kissed the other happily as they hugged their no- longer missing dog.
They thanked K, paying them for finding their missing dog.
K donated half of the money to the local homeless shelter, where they volunteered to help those in need.
Crying filled the air.
K peered out of the kitchen, seeing a mother frantically trying to calm her screaming baby.
They walked out, asking if he could hold the child.
She nodded, handing the baby over. K bounced the baby up and down lightly, humming a little tune.
The baby quieted down, a few giggles and hiccups bubbling up.
Its face broke into a gummy grin, blue eyes twinkling.
The mother looked relieved.
K gave her the rest of the money, handing the small child back over.
As they headed back home for the night, a car drove past, splashing them with a dirty puddle.
K sighed in frustration, glaring at the car as it passed.
They wrapped their arms around themself, continuing their way home in the chilling air.
An old woman saw, tugging them into her shop where she handed then a dry sweater.
They smiled after they changed, thanking her.
She shrugged, telling them that her son and his husband had told her about the person who found their dog.
K smiled that night as they curled into bed.
Sometimes hard things happened, but kindness payed its dues.
