Peridot was new to the whole public school thing. She had been home schooled most of her life, and hardly had any other human interaction than her parents and tutor. She was an outstanding learner though, finishing every assignment given almost immediately.
She twirled a strand of her short blonde hair as she walked through the double doors to Beach City Girls High. She had on a dark green shirt on, with short ripped jeans. Going through the hall she noticed so many wild and colorful hair styles, bright faces, and different body types. She had never seen such diversity. She passed one large girl with dyed rainbow dreadlocks, and she gave Peridot a smirk. She immediately blushed, looking away.
She glanced down at her schedule and noticed P. E. was first. She couldn't belive they still had P. E. in 10th grade. She desperately searched for the room as the hallway began clearing, and the bell was moments away from ringing. She spotted a short, chubby Latina girl with bleached lavender hair leaning against a locker a few feet away. They were about the same height.
"Hi, uh, can I have some help finding the Physical Education class?" The words fumbled out. The girl giggled, standing up and putting her arm on Peridot's shoulder.
"Physical Education room?" She chuckled.
"Well I supposed yes, that's where I need to go."
The girl laughed even harder, holding her stomach.
"Ha! Oh man, alright dude, follow me. We actually have the same class first. My name is Amethyst by the way."
Amethyst started heading down the long, now empty hallway, Peridot following shortly behind.
"My name is Peridot. I'm new here actually." She said, glancing over to the other girl.
"Well no dip, I didn't have trouble guessing that."
Peridot's face got hot and she looked away from Amethyst.
The bell rang, startling the duo. Peridot felt a panic rising in her chest. She couldn't be late the first period of her first day. That was ridiculous, her parents would be furious.
"Woah, Woah, man take it easy, no need to run. The teacher is really laid back. I don't even think she cares what we do the first week." She noticed Peridot's uneasiness almost at once.
"Right. Sorry." she mumbled. They finally reached the large metal doors, and Amethyst pushed the one to the right open. "Nerds first!" She snickered. As Peridot passed through the door Amethyst noogied her, messing up her perfectly brushed hair.
"Stick with me and you'll be just fine."
Peridot weakly smiled. It felt good to have at least one person to talk to.
As she walked into the class she noticed the gym was enormous. Girls lined the bleachers, all talking and laughing. Peridot couldn't help but feel anxiety flood her mind. She would never be able to fit in with these people.
"Just follow me, I'll show you my friends. They're dope." Amethyst grabbed her hand and practically dragged her over to the far end of the bleachers. She noticed three girls immediately. One very tall and brute looking African American girl. She had black messy hair, and sunglasses on, despite how dim the gym already was. "That's sugilite. She has a really rad leather jacket and a bunch of patches. Love you Sugi." Amethyst called. Sugilite stuck her tongue out and waved at us. The next girl was also African American, she had uniquely shaped glasses, and a beautifully built body. "That's Garnet. She doesn't talk much but she's chill." Garnet gave a thumbs up and continued looking down at her phone. Lastly she noticed the girl with the rainbow dreadlocks she had seen before in the hall. The girl immediately winked at her and waved enthusiasticly. "And that is Bismuth, she is a real wild card. Come on let's go sit over there. We can tell you about some other people too. This school is filled with some crazy people."
Amethyst ran up the bleachers, Peridot steadily following behind. Ame wrapped her arms Garnet and Bismuth, happily gesturing Peridot over. Peridot nervously made her way up the steps and sat next to Bismuth.
"And who is this blonde dork?" she asked, nudging Peridot. Amethyst grinned. "That's Peridot. She's new here, if you didn't catch that already."
They chucked, all eyes on Peridot. It made her feel nervous. "I'm sure you've seen some interesting people here already, wanna know any of their deets? " Sugilite asked, leaning over to face Peri.
Peridot glanced around the large gym, picking out a few people that were particularly interesting. "Who's that?" she asked, pointing to a slim girl with short peach colored hair, chatting to a larger girl, with thick pink curls.
"That would be Pearl and Rose. You won't spot them apart. I'm pretty sure she's obsessed. Pearl, that is. I used to think she was cute, but she's got her eyes on that hunky girl. She wouldn't even talk to anyone the day Rose wasn't at school." Bismuth explained.
Peridot nodded. She found Pearl's prominent nose charming, and her bright blue eyes intriguing. She scanned the room more and spotted a girl sitting alone, with a black hoodie and on her phone. She was very pale, and had black hair with dyed blue tips. "And her?" she asked
Amethysy laughed loudly, trying to catch her breath. "Oh BOY! That is Lapis. She's a hardcore loner. She used to date the captain of the football team Jasper. Man Jasper is a piece of art! Don't know why they broke up but the Lapis chick is pretty quiet now. I don't know why Jasper went that low in the first place, being real. "
Peridot found Lapis attractive. The way her hair fell perfectly, and how her hair complimented her deep blue eyes flawlessly. Glancing around the room one last time, she couldn't fine anyone else that really stood out to her. "I guess that's it." she muttered. Bismuth patted her back hard, almost knocking her over. "Alright then. Class is gonna be over soon so we should just go ahead and jump now." Peridot shuddered at the thought of skipping the last part of class, but what harm could it do.
