That's Life - Frank Sinatra
Johnny drove towards the night club with Juliet in the passenger's seat.
"Could I turn the air con on please?" Juliet wafted her face with her hands, looking at Johnny for a response.
"It's broken." He mumbled, concentrating on the road.
"Oh, okay. Can I turn the radio on?-"
"-Don't work."
Juliet eyed Johnny and raised her brow, dropping her hands to her thighs and expelling air from her mouth in an unsettled manner.
"What's up with you?" Juliet asked, Johnny shaking his head softly.
"You've never been to a night club alone. They can be unpredictable." Johnny shrugged, stopping at a light which had just turned red.
"You can't protect me from the world. What's the worst that can happen?" She chuckled slightly at how overprotective he could be at times, even though he pretended not to care a lot.
"Literally anything. You could get off with a random guy-"
"-How long you known Cindy?" Juliet interrupted, folding her arms and waiting for his response. He started the car again once it turned to green, his hands gripping the wheel.
"Or Ruby? Or Janey? What about Debbie? Evelyn?-"
"-I get it! No one loves me, and I can't hold a relationship with anyone." Johnny broke out in anger, his face almost immediately turning red.
"I didn't ask anything like that?!" Juliet retaliated, defending her innocence and proving to herself, and Johnny, that she was actually correct.
"That's why I've been jumping from girl to girl. No one will fucking love me!" He seethed through almost gritted teeth, Juliet rolling her eyes.
"You love the attention you get from girls because not only does it satisfy you, but it creates a good reputation for you." Juliet tried to read him like a book, but she knew that that wasn't the full answer.
"You're right with some parts of that, I admit. But a big part of it is me just trying to have fun whilst I'm protecting you." Johnny added, Juliet furrowing her brows in confusion.
"I don't want you to protect me from anything! All that has led to is me being single whilst I could've been moving on, like everyone wants me to do." Juliet's voice rose a bit more, Johnny's jaw tightening once again.
"Those guys that are in there just aren't right for you." He responded in barely a whisper.
It took a few moments for Juliet to process the argument in her mind, continuing to stare at him as she thought.
"You don't hate the fact that no one loves you, you hate the fact that someone might love me."
It hit her like someone who had just hit the jackpot at a casino; a long period of time of thinking and playing and resentment for a split second of the excitement as a reward, which was the answer for Juliet.
"Why would you ever come to that conclusion?" Johnny slammed on outside of a building which had purple fluorescent lights and music booming from inside like it had it's own heart beat.
"You can flirt with all the girls you want, but as soon as I start looking for a decent guy, it doesn't suit you?" Juliet put it plainly, Johnny shrugging his shoulders and folding his arms.
"Girls are always chasin' me. Besides I can handle the attention a lot better than you can." Johnny also responded quite simply.
"You give yourself a lot more credit than you actually deserve." Juliet scoffed, which made it Johnny's turn to eye her up in suspicion and curiosity.
"How so?" Johnny pushed further for the answer.
"You think all the guys are jealous from all these girls that you're getting when they literally can't stand you. They're too nice to say it, but you've transformed into such a huge asshole and you know it." Juliet pointed at him sternly, Johnny glaring back at her.
"I'm the asshole? How did y'all come to that conclusion?" Johnny pointed his own finger at his chest, Juliet placing her hands over her eyes and rubbing.
"You just don't give a shit about anyone around you anymore! Rick was trying to film you doing a stunt, for your tv show to earn you your money, and even then you're stood with Cindy having a lovely game of tonsil tennis. It's just disrespectful." Juliet released the words like a balloon deflating; such a horrible tension had built up inside and it was finally being freed until there was nothing else really to say.
Johnny was silent for a few seconds, calming his own voice, which contrasted hugely to Juliet's.
"Remind me to apologise to Rick when I next see him." He responded sarcastically, Juliet rolling her eyes and stepping out of the car.
"You're a dickhead, you know that?" Juliet spat unforgivingly, slamming the door and beginning to walk into the club.
"Juliet...-" Johnny called after her, Juliet spinning on her heel and eyeing him.
"Stay safe. Please."
He was almost praying with his eyes.
Juliet's features softened, and so did her body language, her heart starting to ache again as she watched him reluctantly drive away.
It was moments similar to that one where Juliet remembered how caring Johnny could be.
And how much she missed him.
