(The Fourth Grade)
Swinging my brand-new floral schoolbag over my shoulder, I braced myself as I stepped into my new school. My black converse high-tops, black knee-high socks and simple white shirt were new and clean. My long black hair was brushed neatly. I swung open the door to my new classroom. I always liked the beginning of school years. They meant new beginnings. This one was especially important. Coming from a military family, you move a lot. I had moved 7 times in my lifetime, and this would be my 8th and last time. My new permanent home was in Gaithersburg, Maryland, and my new school was Pennington Elementary.
I was determined to impress upon my new school, class and city. I wanted to be off with a great start. I strode through the door and found my seat. It was in the back a name tag. "Y/N" [Your Name Insert Here] was printed in cursive letters. I sat down and had a look around. The teacher, Mrs. Lara, was greeting people as they walked in. "Hello Lucas! Hello Marcus!" she chirruped. Two CUTE twins with dark hair and eyes that blew me away walked in, laughing and joking with each other and took their seats on either side of me. A girl with long blonde hair, blue eyes and designer clothes walked in with them. She batted her eyelashes at the twins and twirled her hair, standing behind me. "How old is she?" I thought in disgust. "She looks like the prissy of this school. And she acts like she's 16." I overheard her sickeningly sweet voice. "Ohhhhhhh Marcus! Luuuuuuucas! Why don't you sit with me at lunch?" She crooned. She walked even closer. "What a-" My thoughts wereinterrupted by a sharp smack on the head. "Oh em gee!" I spun around. It was the blonde girl. "What are you doing in my seat, loser?" She spat. I glared. "This is my seat. What are you talking about?" I said.
"Um, excuse me? I'm Y/N!"
"?!"
I blinked back tears. SHE HAD THE SAME NAME AS ME! She continued. "And I saw you looking at Lucas and Marcus. Just so you know, NEW GIRL, they're MINE." I felt a bubble of panic and a sob arising from my chest. It rose to my throat and threatened to burst and fill me with tears. I ran to the teacher and tried to keep it in.
"Mrs. Lara.. c-ca-can I u-use the b-bathroom?"
"Yes, of course. Are you alright, sweetie?"
"Y-yes. Just.. first day nerves."
I dashed off and ran to the hallway, where I sat and sobbed. Five minutes passed, and then the door banged open. Someone was here. I looked up. No, not someone. SomeONES. I tried to stiffle my tears, but they choked me and swallowed me up. The tears slid down my cheeks and I gasped for air. My eyes were red and cheeks flushed. The twins, Marcus and Lucas were here. They sat on either side of me, wrapping their arms around me. For a minute, neither of us said anything.
