                                                                                    The Night Shift

                                                                                          (Olivia)

It was late, around 1:00 AM by the time I had gotten off of work. I worked the late shift again and had to close the store. I hated doing that. At least I'd be able to sleep in since it was my day off.  I didn't plan on getting up early, even if my friends called me. I was to pooped.

I locked the convenient store doors and wiggled the handle to make sure it was safely locked up, I didn't want anyone breaking in on my watch. I'd be the one to blame for not locking up right.

My boss was a total asshole. Anything that went wrong was immediately my fault. Like that time when the other worker had knocked over all the cans that we had started stacking up all nice and neat, I was the one to blame. Or that time when milk was spilt in one of the isles. I got blamed for that too. Any time something went wrong he blamed me. And I payed the consequences.

I think he had a tendency to blame me cause I resembled his daughter who had caused him great stress and left his care, telling him how much she hated him. Honestly I think he just missed her and needed someone to blame for her leaving that wasn't himself.

I shoved the store keys in my pocket and started to head home. I didn't have a car due to my parents being poor. And It was to late to call up a friend and ask for a ride home. I didn't mind walking. In fact I loved it. I liked to look of nature... I just didn't like being out so late at night like this, walking alone and everything, so many bad things could happen.

You could say I was a paranoid person. My three best friends thought so. I'd always over think and plan ahead or I'm extremely jumpy. The slightest thing would make me paranoid. I got scared of almost anything, making me the one my friends would sometimes tease and stuff when they wanted to go watch a scary movie or something. I knew they were only kidding though.

My house was a good 20-30 minutes away by walking. I sighed and made my journey, making sure to look around and make sure that no one was following me and I hoped that nothing, like a cat or something, would decide to pop out of the bushes next to the side walk.

The street light posts would light up a little area then there was that dark patch till you made it to the next light post. It kind of creeped me out. I took out my phone and turned on my flashlight for when I would hit those dark patches so I could make sure nothing was around. I heard a twig or something snap behind me and I froze. My eyes widened and my back stiffened. I didn't know if It was an animal or another person. I was scared.

"H-hello?..." I managed to choke out weakly. No reply. I slowly turned around and noticed that one of the street light posts was flickering. I got a bad feeling.

"H-hello..." My voice barely a whisper. I waited. I looked around as calm as possible. I could feel my heart racing, it felt like it was about to jump out of my chest.

Suddenly two strong arms wrapped around me from behind. One around my waist and the and a hand covered my mouth. I swear I almost pissed myself. I didn't know what to do. I was terrified. I was about to struggle when I felt something bite my neck.

I couldn't even scream. I couldn't think straight. I felt a warm liquid run down my neck, my body began to feel weak... what... what was going on. I heard muffled voices before I blacked out.
