Such a Tragic Accident

CHAPTER 1: GOODNIGHT AND SWEET DREAMS

"So tragic."

"The girl must be in agony."

"Imagine the depression she MUST be suffering."

"Well, who will take care of her?"

"I cannot. I have enough kids as it is."

"Do not be snotty Dee, I cannot as well, Brian and I are moving now."

"Well call Great Aunt Margret."

The voices stopped at the name. I scooted farther away from them. Great Aunt Margret was, no IS, scary. She criticizes with harshness and respects no one. Great Uncle Charles passed away before I was born. 17 years ago. Not taking away her right to mourn, but it has been over a decade-that is what caused her to be pushed over the deep end.

"Are you crazy!?"

"No, she is the last connection Lila has left to her parents."

"STOP!" I yelled at the gossiping ladies. "I don't want to hear it anymore. Just save it. I can live on my own!" I stomped away, towards my parents coffin. I remember it like it was yesterday.

"Li-Li, (pronounce Lee-Lee) we are going out to one of your father's work events." My mom called out from the foyer.

'Okay mom, what time will you be back." It was already 8 now...

"Around midnight or so, don't wait up for us." She called out again. I walked out of the living room and walked toward the foyer. Burying my face in my mom's neck, I hugged her goodbye. I did the same with me father too. I had a strange feeling that I wouldn't feel their warm, opening hugs again after tonight.

"See you, Li-Li."

"Bye." that stupid nickname. They always called me Li-Li.

3 HOURS LATER:

KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK!

'Coming." I called out sleepily. I must've fallen asleep on the couch. I opened the door to see two police officers outside my door. 'Can...I, uh, help you?" I asked uneasily.

"Are you Miss," He looked at a paper, "Miss Lila Evangeline De'Angelo?" One police officer asked. He was bulky and short, with cropped grey hair.

"Yes I am Lila?" The cop nodded, while the second one looked weary. "I am sorry Miss Lila, but your mother and father were killed in a car accident by a drunk driver at 10:56. The car was totaled and your parent's bodies were....crushed." The second cop explained, his voice breaking at the end.

After he told me, I broke down crying, falling onto the hard tiled floor.

"Ma'am! Ma'am are you alright!?" I couldn't speak, breathe or think. They were gone. I would never feel their hugs or hear them call me Li-Li. The only two people who ever understood me, gone.

I passed out from the crying and the emotional grief I felt.

"Li-Li please don-" I cut her off.

"Do not call me that. Ever." I turned to her sharply, glaring at her, then turning back around to stroke my hand over the classic, smooth wood. They always wanted to be buried together.
