The field is full of Z’d, so many more than 5.

“Where are they?” Starr asks, taking out her binocs to scan the field of untilled grasses and weeds, lit only with moonlight.

“Don’t worry, I’m sure they’re very close.” Chloe replies from behind a broken wooden fence.

“I don’t like it.” Nyx says. “Not one bit.” She has her bow out and an arrow drawn ready for battle.

“Nyx, give it up.” Chloe rolls her eyes and motions for a couple of the Moonwick Coven to join them near the deserted pole barn.

“Zip it Chloe.” Nyx doesn’t look at Chloe, she knows something is not right and her eyes are looking into the distant tree line waiting for the attack.

Starr presses the emergency button on her walkie, opening the line to its mate sitting next to Veronica a Cypher.

Out of the corner of her eye Jessica notices movement but she is unable to break rank even speak.

“What’s the matter Jessica, cat got your tongue?  Too scared to move, tied to the spot?  Brave little soldiers you are to come out here to help US!” Robin emerges from behind a tree and starts laughing at The Coterie women, an evil sinister laugh.  She walks up to Jessica “You were stupid to trust us.”

The only thing The Coterie could do was look around and if they were lucky see one of their sisters.  Nyx and Starr were looking away from the group, alone in their spelled state.  Jessica and Auna were looking at each other, the few members of Moonwick that were in between them looking at and poking the vampires with their athame’s.  Katarina was on the side and could see them all.  She can see the confusion and fear in their eyes, she can see the joy and surprise in the faces of the Moonwick coven.

Chloe walks over to Kate and softly whispers “Oh, don’t be mad sweets..  This is going to be the greatest thing EVER!  You’ll see and you’ll thank us later, my dear twin.”  Chloe walks over to Robin.  “Kathy, would you like to lead us in changing them?”

Kathy, one of the stronger members of Moonwick grins at Robin and Chloe then starts chanting.  The other members of Moonwick start coming out of the barn and casting the circle.  A lower member pours salt and another has a thurible, and they make the binding circle around The Coterie.  Moonwick witches assemble inside this circle and form another circle while chanting.

A bright ball of electric blue lights the space and follows the two lesser wiccans who are creating the binding circle.  Once they are finished and join the powerful witches in their incantation, the ball of light raises above them all in the center of the circle.  The light pulsates with each syllable of the chant, growing brighter and bigger and changing into a darker blue, then a purple, finally a dazzling black, so deep that you could see to forever in its depths.  The Moonwick coven chants louder and the ball of light grows to the size of a Mini Cooper, hovering above the circle.

The Coterie, all of them at once, feel a sensation under their skin.  A burning so bad they want to scream, they haven’t felt pain in so long it was almost forgotten. Immobile, they fear the sudden sizzling sound that envelopes them and the ones that can see the ball see tongues of lightning lapping at the air.

Katarina, the only one of The Coterie that had been a Wiccan, knew what would come next and a tear escaped from her eye.  The pain she knew was awaiting her friends, her sisters, was almost too much.  She couldn’t warn them, and that hurt more than the spell, fighting the pain only made it worse.  She avoided talking about this part of her life for so long she had forgotten how dark, twisty, angry and evil Robin can be when she doesn’t get her way.  Or when she gets a hair up her snotty ass.
