A/N: I know a lot of people have forgotten abt this story, but just kind of got into updating it, so here we go! Can't promise any regular updates or anything but

"You're late, Alexandria," my mother reprimanded, checking her diamond encrusted Cartier watch.

I rolled my eyes, obviously enough for her to see, and scoffed, "You made my appointment too early. No way to get here in this traffic. I do go to school."

She simply pursed her lips as if she was going to respond, but then pointed her nose into the air, which made her look like a cartoon mouse. Within minutes of my arrival, she had already complained to me once, and I could only imagine how much worse it could get. Within minutes, another lady entered our space, carrying a large bag over her back. Catching glimpses of the white fabric, I was sure it was my dress, and I was anxious to get it over with but dreading the poking and prodding that went along with alterations.

I followed her into the smaller room and proceeded to strip down to my undergarments, which I had worn specially in preparation for this fitting. I simply sighed as the young girl pulled the intricate white gown out of the bag and helped me step into it.

"This is so exciting," she commented, her gleeful attitude helping to mask the many age lines around her face. "Is this for the International Deb Ball?"

I simply nodded, not wanting to speak because I probably wouldn't be able to control what I would say. With the event being only four months away, I had already had three fittings, each with a different tailor, to ensure that I would have the best, well-fitting dress. Immediately as the girl helped cinch me into the dress, I tried to mask my distaste for the actual design. It had been specially designed for me as a favor from one of the many designers my mother knew, one whom I had actually walked for in her Fashion Week show. But the dress was so terribly not my style.

I continued to take long deep breaths as I took in my sight in the mirror. I had hardly any makeup on and my hair was tied up in a heap on the top of my head, so hopefully those details would help me to look better on the actual day, but the dress wasn't working for me. Every inch of it had been hand-sewn and encrusted in Swarovski crystals, which was a waste of money on its own because I was bound to lose several of those between now and the actual date of the event. Not to mention that the night of the event, they would probably be falling off left and right. It fit well, hugging my body tightly, which was one reason why I didn't understand the reasoning of so many fittings, and even the hem was pretty perfect, so I didn't see what could really be fixed. I was grateful that I had convinced my mother to let me have a strapless dress, but that only worked because she thought a giant diamond necklace would look good with the gown.

Stepping out of the room, my mother didn't make a noise. She handed me a pair of white heels and instructed me to put them on to check the hem with heels. I did as she said, with the help of the attendant, and stood in front of the large mirror. My mother sat staring at me with a hand on her chin trying to figure out how to fix the dress.

"Hmm," she began, "Let's start with the waist. I think it needs to be brought in even more. It makes her look a bit 'hippy'."

I rolled my eyes again as the older lady cinched the dress even tighter and placed a few pins before checking with my mom. "Okay, that's better, but theres too much cleavage, so it needs to be brought up a few inches."

After an hour or two of random commands regarding the dress and its fit, my mother decided she was happy enough with it and scheduled another appointment, a month out for one of the last alterations. At this rate, we were never going to finish the dress. After all, it was literally created custom, so you would think that not much would need to fixed on it. The designer had my exact measurements, and I hadn't lost or gained any weight at all, so nothing really should've been changed on the dress at all.
