Jasmine's POV:

The hallways were bustling with the sounds of the end of third period. Lockers opening and closing and high-priced sneakers scuffing the wax tile floors were like background music to mindless chatter. Although I could go without hearing who wore what, who was dating who, and who hated who, I had to admit I was glad I was done with science class.

"I was thinking we'd go to the movies tonight," said Bella. "I'm not really in the mood for Penelope's party."

"Me neither," I said, shoving two books into my locker. "I'm up for a movie."

Scarlett closed her locker door and turned her light blue eyes to us. "Do you hear yourselves? We are halfway through our senior year and you guys have only been to one party."

She had a point. "We've been busy," I said in our defense.

"Yeah," Bella chimed in. "Besides, Penelope's rude."

"Maybe so," said Scarlett, "but she throws great parties."

"That's true," Bella and I agreed at the same time, clearly prepared to give in as we always did.

Scarlett had that effect on us. We'd all been close since third grade, and we each brought our own strengths to the group, persuasion being one of Scarlett's. She never bullied us, she just effectively pointed out what she perceived to be our errors in judgement and pushed our decisions in her favor. It was cool, though. She never put us in a bad situation. Besides, we tended to have a lot more fun when she was around.

"Of course it's true," Scarlett said with a playful grin. "I'm always right."

Bella and I just rolled our eyes as we walked to class.

The rest of the day was normal, we went from class to class, ate lunch, chatted with everyone, then went home.

My friends and I hopped in Scarlett's light blue Mustang and cruised down Almondale road towards my house. School was only a few blocks from my house, but as seniors, there was no way we'd be caught dead walking. Not that the dead could walk, but you get my point.

I wore a black dress that stopped right above my knees and my long brown hair was straightened. Bella looked like an island girl with her medium-length black wavy hair and mini dress. Scarlett looked like a model in a strapless black top and jean shorts, her blonde hair up in tight curls.

Feeling as good as we knew we looked, we left for the party.

Music was blasting from the speakers and you could tell there was already a bunch of people here from all the cars parked in her front yard.

We didn't even have to ring the doorbell, the door was wide open already.

We see Penelope and all the people that were always around her. She started to walk over toward us.

"Hi!" she hollered over the music stumbling past us into the kitchen.

Penelope was popular because of her good looks. She had brown hair and hazel eyes, she was definitely beautiful, it didn't hurt that she had confidence that could knock anyone out of their high ego.

We made our way into the kitchen where Aiden Moore was pouring drinks.

"How are you? You haven't talked to us in a while." Scarlett hollered over the loud music.
