Waking up the next day James believed that everything he remembered from the night before was just a weird dream. And he would have kept on believing that if it wasn't for the numerous texts that he got from his friends that told him otherwise.
While the nicer of his two friends were asking him how he was feeling, the other was made sure to ask him if he woke up floating above his bed.
Not wanting to deal with either one on an early morning. James got up from his bed and made his way to his bathroom across the hall. Looking at himself in the mirror, he realized that all the bruises from the previous night's encounter were surprisingly gone.
"Where did they go?"
"Did you say anything honey?" At that moment James's mother conveniently popped her head in the bathroom, James knew that she was there the whole time probably trying to spy on him, but didn't comment on it. "So, I woke up yesterday in the middle of the night and couldn't go back to sleep. I decided that I would watch the news downstairs. I watched it for ten minutes when there is a segment about a psychopath escaping a mental hospital few cities over. Being the amazing mother I am I decided to check on my baby boy to make sure he is safe and sound. You see, I believed he was working on his math homework like a champ, but was greeted to an open window instead... quite strange, am I right?
The more she talked the more James's heart prepared to stop.
"Mom, look, I can explain-"
"You see if I was not the very awesome and cool mother that you see before you, I wouldn't be turning my head and not grounding you for two extra months, but thankfully for your troublemaking self, I am." Satisfied with how much she scared James that morning she gave her signature 'sometimes its really fun to be a parent' smirk, turned, and made her way out of the bathroom.
.
"So, have you thought about why you can fly?"
"Tori, why so loud! I'd rather not have the entire school believing that I'm a freak."
"I'm sorry, but how am I more excited about this than you are! Do you know how much I would give to be able to fly? What I would do! I would literally kill someone to be able to fly! James, I would kill you." When she said the last thing she stopped talking for a second before going on. "Hey, Marcus, do think if I killed James, that I would get his powers?"
"What are you talking about it? You are not going to kill me!"
"Hey, you wouldn't even know what was happening until BANG, your dead."
James couldn't help but be a little scared. "I feel like this is the time where I should be running as far away from you as possible."
"Hey, I'm an evil mastermind and power hungry. It's one of my charms."
"Okay, I don't think that you know what that word means because, guess what, being an evil mastermind in any possible reality is not a charm."
"You are the most annoying and meanest person in the whole world!"
